Painful bowel movements

Post by lasteve »

My biggest pain trigger is bowel movements. I awake most mornings feeling fine, but then my morning BM triggers the pain -- sometimes more burning in nature, sometimes hot inflamation, sometimes reaching into the scrotum and perineum.

I'm wondering what others' experiences are in regard to bowel movements as a trigger being an indication of chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome as my chief problem and, if so, if the Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol has proven beneficial?
Onset in '89. Treatments include balloon dilation for 'blockage', TUMT and most recently TURP for calcification. Liquor/caffeine are triggers. Was relatively fine from '98 to '05, but pain returned relentlessly. Pain in perineum, scrotum, sometimes generating down left leg. Pain increases w/ sitting and after ejaculating.

I have burning in my buttocks and around my anal area after a bowel movement very often..sometimes that area hurts when I walk.. But it's rare that it lasts for the whole day.. Hot baths after help sometimes..

OK, too lazy to change my signature, but my sympoms have improved significantly, some went away competely. Old sig below.

Age: 27 | Onset Age: 23 | Symptoms: differ from year to year, anal/buttocks pain(especially when moving around/walking), burning when pee every once in a while, muscle tightness after peeing, sometimes but rarely burning after,, but no urgency , i pee about 4-5 times a day. Stomach bloating, hard to pass gas, occasional sharp pain in right side lower abs.

Helped By: alcohol(maybe i am wrong about this one,, helps some symtoms, possibly makes other symptoms worse), water, Beer always cures urethra pains/burning.
| Worsened By: showers, defecation, massage?, stress, winter, early spring, Snapple diet iced tea?.

Makes no difference: sitting(try putting something under back legs of your chair to tilt it slightly), masturbation(2-3 times a day usually),(update, now down to 1-2 times a day), used to ride bike without a seat on for 4 hours some days 3-4 days a week- no problem, spicy foods - no problem, 3-4 cups of black tea a day- no problem

I have posted on this before as well. BM can irritate the already irritated tissue in the rectum. I think that prostatitis that is symptom related to an inflamed prostate can also lead to an irritated rectum. It's all conected to tight muscles, Pelvic myoneuropathy, neurogenic inflammation, mast cells. All this fed my stress and food irratives.

I know this to be true because if I don't have a BM, say for what ever reason because of the Elavil I take, I miss a BM, I have no symptoms what so ever. Now when I have a Bm, I have to also pass urine most of the time and I think this overloads the nerves in this area and irritates. Prep H is helpful for this to me. I'm not a doctor...

I encourage anxiety prone UCPPS people to consider L-Theanine
Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.

In the same boat here.

Wish I could find a relaxation method post bowel movement.

The day can be going smooth until this occurs, then the pain ensues. True even if I am very regular and there is no spicy foods.

Age: 31 | Onset Age: 28
Symptoms: Pain in perineum, tight sphincter muscles, referred pain at tip of penis.
Helped By: sleep, hot baths, relaxation, stretching protocol.
Worsened By: Sitting and stress. No connection with food, alcohol or caffeine.

Heating Pad

Post by jimbo108 »

I've suffered from pain resulting from my bowel movements for months. I posted a query earlier on this forum and got the excellent advice to start using a heating pad.

This has helped a lot.

My physical therapist tells me this helps because the muscles are clenching/spasming after the BM and eventually start to ache because of the lack of blood flow. The heating pad opens up the blood vessels.

I lie on the heating pad set to high for 15 minutes soon after my BM and then take 10-15 minutes off. I repeat 1 or two times if necessary. I do this on/off routine because I'm told that that if you use the heating pad for two long it can cause soreness by drawing fluids into the area.

recently I got a hose from 99 cent store which I use to wash my butt instead of using toilet paper.. seems to really help a great deal... Took a week or so to get comfortable with it...I just run the hose from the faucet into the toiler bowl, adjust the water then put the hose onto the faucet.. saves money on TP too..
