Need Help Chronic Bacterial Prostatitis
About 3 weeks ago I woke up with severely swollen painful prostrate burning urine, just a nightmare. I went to a med clinic and was put on Cipro, follow by GP the next week-He gave more Cipro after two and a half weeks on the Cipro with what I thought was only some improvement I went to an urologist "earliest app. I could get" I told him my problems-not to mention the stomach pain assoc. with taking the meds. He put me on levaquin for 28 days "750mg after meals". I hope this works. They were never able to culture my urine on the first med clinic. Has anyone had a similar experience? I'm in SF, so is there anyone good I can go to? I feel as if I won't survive this and the antibiotics. Thanks Mike

Did they test you for bacteria? If they did and it was negative, you do not have bacterial prostatitis, but the non-bacterial variety, like the rest of us here.
If you are in SF, you are lucky. You can access David Wise just north of SF.

I'm not sure
I had fever and chills, lots of sweating, urinating was like razor blades before the antibiotics. I still have night sweats-on one night I sweated so much that I had to change my shirt 3 times. I was on several antibiotics for a sinus infection-the urologist said, "I was set up". The urologist took a slid and some secretion from the tip of my penis looked under a microscope and then told me I have bacteria there. Do I have bacterial or non bacterial? And is it worth it top stay on the antibiotics? Or do they worsen my condition? And can you tell me how to get in touch with Dr Wise. Please advise.

I would say that your uro saw pus cells under the microscope. They often see that and then tell the patient to take antibiotics, just to cover themselves in case there is an infection; but pus cells are usually caused by inflammation, not infection.
Your continuing night sweats mean that you may be one of the unfortunate ones that also have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) as well. I did too. It tends to mean you feel abnormally fatigued along with the pelvic pain. Sinusitis is typical in this picture too...
I'd stop with the antibiotics, if it were me.

Thank you for the information. The sweating thing really didn't start until a week into the antibiotics and after I had ejaculated-I thought I had gone sespic "SP"-It felt like the infection had spread to my whole body-my lower back kidneys, etc and lasted a few days. I wonder if I'll ever get well. PS My urine was cloudy and had an oder to it before all this happen.

In that case, finish the antibiotics and then wait another month to see if things settle down. If you do have an infection, you should feel much better by then. If not, come back here.

is this not a rare case of Chronic bacterail Prostatitis which is treated with 6 + month course on a low dose of antibiotics .
Age:33 | Onset Age:19 | Symptoms:burning urethra, deep sore stinging around the perineum, dribbling | Helped By:when flare starts deep relaxing over a toilet to let out dribbling urine, hot bath, rubbing a heat cream on the perineum, Tens with a pad on the perineum, running, medication (solpadol) for pain. Current treatment: PT. | Worsened By:sitting, stressing over it, ejaculation, sometimes alcohol but I risk it. Been feeling a lot better last 6 months about 85% with a few flares lasting about 5 days. No longer having PT. Stretching every other night and I believe time is also a big factor for me

Graeme, it could be a case of bacterial prostatitis, although I doubt it. To be called "chronic bacterial prostatitis" he'd have to have it for much longer than he has. Even so, treatment is 6-8 weeks of antibiotics usually.
MikeinCA, you need to discuss the stomach problem with your prescribing doctor. He may be able to switch your antibiotic or give you a medication to alleviate the stomach pain.

Thanks everyone for the help. If it's a case of Non bacterial prostatitis what can I expect to happen after getting off the antibiotics? why do they bother putting people on antibiotics if it's non bacterial? If I had a non inflamatory type could it turn into this type? Would ejacualtion at this time be recommended?

Nothing will happen when you get off the antibiotics, if you have CPPS.
Uros give antibiotics mostly because it covers their asses legally, and because it eliminates the possibility of infection. I guarantee that if you keep going back to the uro and don't get better, he'll eventually tell you that there's nothing he can do for you. He may make a bit more $$$ from you by doing a cystoscopy and maybe send you to a friend for a CT scan and a few ultrasounds. Sorry if I sound too cynical, seen it too many times before. If he's totally unethical, he may suggest a TURP.
Ejaculation is not an issue, one way or another. It tends to flare up chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome for most men though, and if it does this for you that's a dead giveaway.
