Post by mctiger83 »

It's really nice to meet you guys.

I'm the man who struggling with this chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome for about 10 months.

I've heard that especially those who have urinary frequency are worsened by the alcohol drinking.

it seems like there is a crucial link between alcohol and symptoms.

Shouldn't I drink no more?

is there anyone feeling more severe pain in your areas after drinking?
in my case I do.but it subsides soon.
what do you think of this guys? thank you so much.!!

Alcohol is a well known trigger for symptoms. And since it obviously affects your symptoms, of course you should eliminate it from your diet.
Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.

After a few months of not drinking, you won't miss it. At  least I can say that this condition forces you to make better decisions about taking care of your self....

I encourage anxiety prone UCPPS people to consider L-Theanine
Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.

Several years into my bout with CP liquor and caffeine became complete triggers for flareups for me. I can not even tolerate the amount of liquor that remains in a sauce or rum cake. (Both of which are much higher than arrogant chefs want to believe...only a small percent of alcohol actually cooks out.)

I just read on a site that a study showed that men with prostatitis have more urine infiltrating into their prostates. It struck me that my sensitivity to liquor and caffeine came about after I experienced a tearing sensation in my prostate when trying to withhold an ejaculation.
Onset in '89. Treatments include balloon dilation for 'blockage', TUMT and most recently TURP for calcification. Liquor/caffeine are triggers. Was relatively fine from '98 to '05, but pain returned relentlessly. Pain in perineum, scrotum, sometimes generating down left leg. Pain increases w/ sitting and after ejaculating.

Alcohol actually helps me. Just one drink really takes the edge off my penile pain (at tip). I don't find my symptoms are any worse after urination either - if anything, they are better. I figure alcohol works for me because it is a muscle relaxant and mild pain killer. Sounds like I might be in the minority here though.
Age: 37 | Onset Age: 35 | Symptoms: Burning after urination, ache in left side. | Helped By: Hot baths, phys. therapy, relaxation (especially moment to moment), walking, Flexeril, Ativan/Xanax, Cymbalta. | Worsened By: Prolonged sitting, stress

My personal opinion is factors like ejaculation, alcohol, food stuffs are often only a secondary irritant to stress and anxiety. In other words if I'm flaring quite badly these things can effect me. Now if I'm not flaring like the last few days then a few drinks, a spicy curry won't effect me barely at all.

Furthermore, I'm sure that David wise would not advocate doing the SP and healing the pelvis and never touching all these triggers again? It makes sense that if you are flaring due to stress - muscles tighten, nerves become impinged and then mast cells are proliferated and then you may be more susceptible to these triggers.

I for one still cycle, swim, drink a fair amount with my friends on a Saturday night and eat most foods bar gluten / wheat products (healing my leaky gut has allowed me to tolerate previous food triggers - I will write a post on this). Please dont think I am being flippant - I only really get pain with this condition (maybe thats why these triggers dont effect me?) but there is no doubt that my pain can still be bad and has been bad in the past.
The thing is I have narrowed my pain down to 3 factors - stress / anxiety, post ejaculation, vigorous exercise or exercise when my muscles are tight. Compared to the pain I get from stress / anxiety the few hours pain I may get from other minor irrritant is very acceptable to me.

Of course we're all different and these triggers may effect others in worst ways. I just wanted to say that often these "secondary" triggers are only temporary and will cease to be an issue in many men once you get the muscles healed. I believe that for those who dont follow a stringent version of the SP other triggers may continue to play a role.

I'm buying a new bike and going cycling in the lake district soon. I also swim a lot. Neither activity causes me a flare. Although I have to be careful to relax my muscles before hand. I personally believe that cycling doesnt have to as long as you learn to sit without your pelvis being "stuck up". I've had a lot of pain the last few months due to a new job but in recent weeks my pain has minimized almost completely. I will write about this shortly - suffice to say I have found new methods that are working for me & I'm gaining knowledge every single day about this condition.

Its hard to say as there are so many confounded factors.
Personally I can drink coffee when not in a flare up. Alcohol on the other hand really helps relax the area during a flare up and the after effects are barely noticeable.
You will eventually begin to know your limits but judging by the responses in this thread, irritants are very individual specific.

Following what GP2 says about exercise, I am finding that workouts 2-3 times per week are having a strong effect eliminating stress and therefore improving my condition further.

I realize for others who do not exercise, this can cause some flare-ups but in the end, the net relaxation effect seems well worth the battle to get healthy.

Now if I miss workouts, stress ensues as do the flare-ups.

Also ditto what GP2 says about triggers being secondary. In a perfect relaxed environment, I can tolerate quite a bit.
Age: 44 | Symptoms: Pain in pelvis, Post urination drip. Helped by: Squat stretching, PT, Prelief before banned foods, Vit B, Cystoprotec AFTER foods, singulair after foods, Exercise. Drinking Kills me

Post by mach5 »

When I was at the SP clinic.

The majority said drinking made there symptoms worse. Some said a few hours later, some said right away. And then there were a few that said it helped dull the pain.

Seems to be vary varied.
