Bleeding from Aleve (naproxen) (Naproxen)

Post by darin »

Hi all,
I found that one that really helped me was daily Aleve (naproxen) -- three pills a day. I found today that I had blood in my stool, presumably from that. (It says online that too much Naproxen can cause that.) It really freaked me out. Any advice? Do others find Aleve (naproxen) helpful? Any substitutes? I read that one can take a stomach acid reducer with it, but there was just a report about how those pills can cause heart damage.
Ugh. Fun problem we have, no?

Of course see your family doctor. However, is the blood dark or light red? How much bood? How often? Only when you wipe?

That report on proton pump inhibitors ( prilosec/ nexium) according to an MSNBC article I read stated that the above is not proved and that there is no relation to heart problems with proton pump inhibitors. What that article was saying was there is really no structural difference between the 2 drugs made by the same company and that Nexium is more $ and was pushed by drug reps for doctors to go with nexium after the patten on prilosec ended. $$$$$$$$$. I'm not a doctor and you should check with your doctor.

For me I take a prolosec every day and have for many years and I think it has helped me when I take Aleve (naproxen) 2 pills a day for a few days then stop or take as needed.

Either way, you should see a doctor if you have had dark blood in your stools. If it was bright red after wiping, it can be a slight rip or a roid...Check with your doctor.

Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.

Call your doctor at once if you have symptoms of bleeding in your stomach or intestines while on Naproxen.
