Spasms in my perineum
I have noticed in the last few weeks I can feel slight spasms in my perineum. I can actually put my finger on it and feel it spasm. I'm wondering if this is the external muscles in there or the internal anal spincter? It almost feels like through my constant moment to moment relaxation I have practiced for 1 year, those muscles are releasing. Not sure what is happening. I'm sure it has to do with fatigued muscles that are trying to heal. Any thoughts?

I encourage anxiety prone UCPPS people to consider L-Theanine
Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.

I agree Carl - this happened to me too!It almost feels like through my constant moment to moment relaxation I have practiced for 1 year, those muscles are releasing. Not sure what is happening. I'm sure it has to do with fatigued muscles that are trying to heal. Any thoughts?[/

I also get this from time to time, and I notice that when I get this my other areas are at rest (ie the t/ps areas internally at 6 & 9 o clock). Unfortunately, this doesnt occur enough, but I think its a sign of the muscles trying to release and because they are so used to being in spasm or tight, they fight it.
I think its a good sign and I dont fight it when I get it.

I agree, I think it's a very good sign. I remember a few weeks after my onset when I was freaking out about the discomfort etc...I noticed these spasms in my perineum. I told my first Uro. about it and he told me to ignore it and live life. ( typical uro response of not thinking out of the box)If I only knew then what I know now. I would of been able to use that signal that my muscles are in a tight/ guarding state and that's why I was getting inflammation and all the symptoms.scoobysnacks wrote:Carl

Now with all the work and healing, I'm taking these mini spasms ( a few a day right now) as a healing my muscles are trying to do. It feels like a release of some type. So at this point I have now stopped my uroxatrol for 3 weeks and I feel like I'm truly getting better with the protocol.

Re: Spasms in my perineum
I've been having these spasms too in this area. I've assisted them by also attempting external manual massage in the area they feel like they are generating from. Not sure if it's helping or not yet.

Re: Spasms in my perineum
These sound like fasciculations again, and if so they seem to be a sign that the situation is improving. Carl's case shows that it is no trivial, quick thing to unwind this condition.
Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.

Re: Spasms in my perineum
OMG, I love this site! I only wish I joined years ago...
I started experiencing chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome symptoms in 2005, after a year I started feeling these muscle spasms (once I learned the relaxation techniques from Dr. Wise) and eventually my symptoms were 99% gone, for years!
Unfortunately I got too lazy about keeping up with the relaxation and got back to the stress cycle, plus started a strenous exercise routine. Because of this I got a flare-up about a month ago, now I start feeling these spasms again and the situation is getting better.
During the 2 years of no symptoms I did not have any spasms, only now after the symptoms came back from a flare-up and its easing. This made me think that the spasms were a good sign, now I am just happy to see that other people also feel it that way.
By the way, as most of you no bacteria was found after many many tests and months of multiple antibiotics. These spasms seem to be proof that something as "simple" as a strained muscle is at least a major player in CPPS. Now I see this as just a sore muscle than a disease, its just hard to heal because we strain it all the time.

Re: Spasms in my perineum
Had light spasms in the perineum last night while in bed. I can only ever feel this when I'm very relaxed and lying in bed almost asleep
The next day I often feel much better

Age:33 | Onset Age:19 | Symptoms:burning urethra, deep sore stinging around the perineum, dribbling | Helped By:when flare starts deep relaxing over a toilet to let out dribbling urine, hot bath, rubbing a heat cream on the perineum, Tens with a pad on the perineum, running, medication (solpadol) for pain. Current treatment: PT. | Worsened By:sitting, stressing over it, ejaculation, sometimes alcohol but I risk it. Been feeling a lot better last 6 months about 85% with a few flares lasting about 5 days. No longer having PT. Stretching every other night and I believe time is also a big factor for me
