New Member with Questions

Post by elniko »

Hello all, new member here and I wanted to get some thoughts on a few things. I have been dealing with chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome for over 5 years now and am now finally getting some relief thanks to information on this board and a great urologist who referred me to a great PT familiar with the Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol. Have any members of the board been on Elavil for a prolonged period of time? I am currently on a low dose of 10mg and believe that it has helped. If you are on Elavil what dosage are you on? In relation to PT, did many of you go for a prolonged period of time or was the relief pretty quick? I began seeing my PT in March and now we are on a as needed basis only. I am concerned that I should continue to go weekly. Do many of you use Prelief and if so have you encountered any bad effects of it.

I'm a little frustrated right now because before last Friday I was feeling the best I had in years and then I stupidly ate some spicier than originally thought tamales which have done a number on me. Sorry for the long winded post and if some of it should have gone to other parts of the board.

Elniko,

Welcome to the site. Been there, feeling good and decide to tackle some spice, only to start to feel the discomfort kick in. Same with caffeine, had a coke with lime for the first time in over a year. Tasted great, but an hour latter had frequency and some discomfort. Oh well live and learn.

Read the many posts here on Elavil. I have been on it for about 6 months I think, and I have had no problems other than some hard stools and some fatigue. I do think that working 10 hrs a day and raising a family can wear you out as well. So I think a low dosage of Elavil is safe 10mg or lower. It has helped me. I'm not a doctor...

Regards, Carl...

I encourage anxiety prone UCPPS people to consider L-Theanine
Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.

I'm still doing PT almost 4 years later but I did get some very rapid relief from PT in the early days (see the link in my signature). I believe that the reason I still suffer is down to two main issues:

1) I still don't relax enough and have to battle against being a type A personality.

2) I missed some very key trigger-points in the first couple years of my treatment which enabled those areas to become chronically dysfunctional - which is making progress very slow now.

I used to use Prelief all the time - but didn't encounter any issues with it - plus I can't recall ever reading about other posters here having any issues either. Worth trying.
