Doctor in Los Angeles Area
I have had chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome for around 12 years, been through 2 different urologists in Los Angeles and every test in the book. Both were clueless as to this condition.
Does anyone have a referral for a doctor in Los Angeles that treats and understands this condition?
Thanks

Re: Doctor in Los Angeles Area
There is Dr.Sheldon Jordan, a neurologist in Santa Monica that is specialized in pelvic pain. He offers Botox, Ketamine infusions, and works with a PT.Seekinghelp wrote:I have had chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome for around 12 years, been through 2 different urologists in Los Angeles and every test in the book. I second that, Dr. Zeitlin is my Uro and is well aware of this condition and is a researcher for the CPCRN.bshaw99 wrote:Scott Zeitlin, M.D. in Century City and Santa Monica

I encourage anxiety prone UCPPS people to consider L-Theanine
Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.

Let me also add my support for Dr. Zeitlin. He is a great URO and has stuided this condition for years with the other researchers in the CPCRN. He is also aware that different people can have different causes for their condition.
Stay away from Dr. Christopher Saigal at UCLA! I wasted about $250 on an office visit to him about a year ago where he spent no more than five minutes with me. His only passion seemed to be to get me out of his office as quickly as possible and he told me that my only option was pain managment. The guy had horrible bedside manners and did not want to listen to anyting I had to say. What really gets me is that he is listed on Quercetin suppliers' web page as a physician who supports their products, but he never mentioned any accredited quercetin product to me nor did he seem to have any interest in CPPS.

Dr. Z is amazing, He has always been very available to my questions. It's great that He is a researcher, that way it makes sense for him to know how you are doing so he can chart your progress for the sake of research. He was the first Doctor to tell me my condition was most likely caused by stress. That's a bold move for a doctor and it really opened up the door for me to make changes in my life and then I came accross this site and now all the tools are there for getting better.

Hey Carl, I have been doing well! Even though my symptoms are still there, they are only a small fraction of what they used to be. I think I have said this before, but there was a time during the first year when I could not sit for more than a few minutes at a time or I would end up being sore for hours. I cannot remember the last time I experienced. I am on Quercetin right now and that seems that have made my symptoms more quiet, even more so than they were the last time I posted here. The labido is also improving. I know that I can see more improvement if I make some simple lifestyle changes, like quiting smoking, better diet, and getting more sleep. I know that I should have done this a long time ago and Dr. Z has advised me to do so, but the depression and stress this condition brings makes changing habbits very difficult for some people.carld wrote: David, how have you been?

I agree with your sentiments of Dr. Zeitlin. I would recomend to anyone with chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome to see him or someone in the CPCRN. They can at least point you in the right direction (refer to Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol, physical therapy, neurologist, etc ). I have been to enough UROs to know that the average one knows squat about chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome and so it would be very worthwhile for anyone here who has not seen one of these specialists to do so.
Hope you're fealing better and hope the same of everyone else here.

David,
That's really great to hear that you are going better. I have found that the Quercetin works well for me.
How did the Lyrica deal work for you? Did you know if you were taking it or a placebo?
Take care....PS Have seen Elton in Vegas at all. I find it a real downer that He has gone that rout...

Thanks, Greg. I think I am going to follow your advice and get a Deepak Chopra book. I believe that meditation will be a great benefit for me, and not just for CPPS.GP2 wrote:David,

The Lyrica study consisted of two parts, the first of which was placebo controlled. To this date, I still do not know if I was on the placebo. According to what I was told, that information would eventually be revealed, but probably not until after all the data had been collected from all the test cases. Since this study was conducted at several different sites throughout the U.S., it may still be some time before I get that information.carld wrote:David,

The second part was an open-label study where I definitely got the real drug. Ironically, after having very calm symptoms during the first part, I had a bit of a flare after the first week of the second phase which got progressively better over the next several weeks. At the end of the study, I entered a long period of very mild symptoms with many days of no symptoms at all.
The only nasty experience I had was when I completely came off the medication (after titrating down from 600 mg a day to 150 mg a day). I had flu-like symptoms and an upset stomach for 3 or 4 days. I found at least one web site that stated that this was a possible effect from withdrawal. Interestingly enough, there were no chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome symptoms.
I agree. Haven't seen him since he appeared in L.A. in 2001. I could probably use a getaway trip to Vegas though.carld wrote: Take care....PS Have seen Elton in Vegas at all. I find it a real downer that He has gone that rout...
