I unfortunately had a TURP before It was realized that I likely had CPPS. Urinating is no longer a problem but the pain and frequency are still there 6 months after the turp (actually laser PVP surgery from which I got retro ejaculation.) VALIUM eliminates my pain but when it goes I feel a constant urge to urinate. I can hold off quite a while before going especially if I am busy and distracted so urgency is not that bad. Perhaps the constant feeling I have to urinate was masked before I by the pain . Feeling is impossible to ignore unless I am VERY distracted. Keeps me awake at night. Has anyone else had this constant feeling to urinate problem? Or could it be a result of the surgery?

Re: Turp, valium, constant urge to urinate
Very common symptom for a lot of chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome sufferers. I only got rid of mine by triggerpoint therepy.gifford wrote:Has anyone else had this constant feeling to urinate problem?

You're wondering whether the constant urge to urinate you experience could be a result of the surgery? Why did your uro perform the TURP in the first place?
This is not medical advice. Please consult your physician.

I had extreme had extreme hesitancy and low flow stream which just created more stress and gave me more pain. Looking back, a TURP may have been a mistake but no one mention chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome until AFTER a TURP.
Anyway, it is good to know that others are suffering a CONSTANT urge to urinate. from CPPS. At least, there is hope to get rid of it if it is CPPS. If it from TURP, than there would be less hope.

More constant feeling to urinate
I can go up to 5+ hours sometimes without urinating so my frequency is not all that high. ( What is normal frequency (i.e., #x/day) any way?) I know I do not need to go so I try ignore it most of the time. But still feel like I have to urinate nearly all the time even after I do.. It seems when the pain is down then this feeling to pee is worse. I have one or the other, sometimes both for 10 months now. I have had no time when either has been completely gone. I am on 5-7.5 mg/day Valium, doing PT and relaxation and stretches. My pain has dropped a lot since doing all this (from 8 to 2 out of 10) but now I notice this constant urge. It may have been masked by the extreme pain before. But now the constant feeling to pee is worse than the pain. It is worse at night when I try to sleep and not distracted. Still it is annoying 24 hours /day. Only average ~4 hours sleep/night . My body has apparently got used to existing on this much sleep. Anyway, I have hope that the pain can be reduced to negligible but have not seen many folks discuss the feeling to urinate all the time even when they just peed. I had my residual urine checked many times . It has never been over 100 ml so that is not the problem. I really don't need to go. Just feel that I do . Again I hope this is a result of chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome or IC or what ever I have and therefore can reduced by doing more of what I am doing now. But if this feeling to pee is because of the TURP which made my bladder neck real wide then there may not be much hope. But I am glad to hear that at least some other folks have who have not had a TURP experience this constant urge. I feel sorry for them but at the same time maybe there is hope for me after all . I must admit, though I am getting a bit discouraged in keeping on. I have seen no change since March 1.

Re: More constant feeling to urinate
Normally, the average person urinates no more than six to eight times each day, and does not have to get up at night to use the bathroom. When a person needs urinate more than once every couple of hours during the day, or get up several times during the night, something is probably wrong.gifford wrote:What is normal frequency (i.e., #x/day) any way?

Constant Sensation of a Need to Urinate
The constant sensation of a need to urinate is one of my symptoms as well. It usually wakes me up 2 - 4 times per night, so I go urinate and then try to get back to sleep, which sometimes is challenging. Any suggestions from guys who have had similar symptoms?

Trigger point release is the main thing that helps here. Generally I find that when symptoms are up I massage round the bladder area, just 2 inches below the belly button and outward from this point on the left and right. Stecthing as in AHIP is very usful as well.Any suggestions from guys who have had similar symptoms?
Age 43: Onset June 2005, Initially: perineal pain, discomfort in penis, very sensitive, sometimes burning. Red around the urethra on penis. Increased urination during night, problems with stream, sometimes constant urge to urinate. Exercise and moving around and laying down helps. Sitting down and squatting makes it worse. Improved to about 85-95%. Symptoms usually mild pain near belly button and slight urge to urinate.
Re: Turp, valium, constant urge to urinate
Here is my experience, so far:
After Laser (PVP) prostate surgery last January, I wound up with a bladder infection caused by insertion of a catheter for a bladder test. Three months later (I was on Ciprofloxacin) the urine test finally showed negative, but I still had symptoms. My uro stated I probably had prostatitis, and essentially blew me off; I was on my own (the surgery itself was quite successful). I consulted with the urology dept at a nearby University Medical School; their urine tests indicated "traces" of Staph. They advised that Cipro was not effective against Staph, and prescribed another anti biotic.
Almost literally simultaneously with application of the new medication, the classical symptoms we apparently all experience subsided to zero; with the exception of a sensation of congestion in the area from the rear of the testicles to the anus. Pressing anywhere along this path, and then releasing resulted in a feeling of congestion returning...What seems to have helped HUGELY was my use of a drugstore jell pack heated to a comfortable temperature, and then sitting on it. This included sitting on the jell pack while driving.
I cannot state with any real certainty that it was the anti biotic that really did me any good, since I strongly suspect that it takes more than just a few hours for such medication to begin to have a positive effect. My conclusion is it HAS to be my use of proper levels of heat applied to the affected area which has produced the current result.
I have no idea whether this will continue on to a final happy resolution; but at least, as of this post, there has been NO return of stinging in the penis during or after urination, bladder contraction either during or after, pulses or spikes of discomfort, or whatever...
I realize that many if not almost all who suffer from this demon have probably tried application of heat, but the jell pack may have something to offer over the use of an electric heating pad....FWIW...

About 2.5 months after PVP (Photo-Selective Vaporization) prostate surgery, which resulted in retrograde ejaculation. A feeling of uncomfortable fullness or congestion in the linear path between the rear of my scrotum and my anus. When finger pressure is applied anywhere along this path and then released, there is a feeling of re-congestion that takes place. Sometimes it feels as if there is a heavy uncomfortable sensation at the end of urination. Ejaculation seems to have initiated this whole thing, and sometimes when there is a lull in the discomfort, exercise seems to worsen it.
