Hello and thank you.

Hi,

After reading these forums for a few weeks, I thought it now appropriate to post and introduce myself. Like most who find themselves on these boards, I have been been living a mixed bag since contracting this horrible condition some 13-14 years ago.

As echoed so many times before from far too many people, I have been round the full 19 holes with various doctors and urologists and was very excited to have found a support forum such as this, where I can learn from others experience, in a hope that I can educate myself more fully in a system that can help me relieve my symptoms.

My story:

I first contracted the symptoms of chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome when I was 25, after several very sexually active relationships, the initial symptoms were, pain between the rectum and scrotum, constant pain behind the pubis, slight pain at the tip of the penis and cloudy urine with a weak stream.

After several visits to my doctor and multiple courses of antibiotics my symptoms would remain.

Various tests were performed on urine and ejaculate samples, an although no bacteria seemed present, both urine and sperm had high white blood cell counts. My doctor eventually arranged a visit to a urologist and a cystoscopy was performed, which indicated that my prostate was inflamed, but again no bacteria was present. The urologist said that there was nothing they could do.

After these first 2 years of treatment, I turned my back on the traditional medical establishment, as it was obvious that they could not do much for me. I soon became accustomed to the pain and the years pasted quickly. Looking back I have perhaps had 20-30 significant flare ups and downs in the last 10 years, with some periods of 90% relief for as long as a year, but the underlying low level dull feeling of something not right down there, has always been present.

Up until this middle of last year, I have been 80-90% symptom free with only the post ejaculation pain present for a few days after, but several very stressful events happened last year, in conjunction with a few weeks of boozing it up at the new year, have brought the more prolonged and severe symptoms back.

Some things I have tried that have often helped during minor flares are, cutting out the booze, frequent exercise, plenty fluids, believe it or not a hot bath and ice cube up the rectum and a hot water bottle on the top of the pelvis is a great way to numb the pain when trying to get to sleep, 4 x 400mg ibruprofen per day for 1 week.

I have not yet found a sure way of getting over the worst part of the more severe flare ups, so finding this forum and alternative approaches has been a real blessing.

I have recently bought a copy of A HEADACHE IN THE PELVIS and some Quercetin, and am about to embark on some of the self administered TP and PR, but I would really like to see a decent PT who knows what they are doing down there. I saw in a post the name of a PT called Bill Taylor in Scotland?? If someone could perhaps PM me his contact details I would really appreciate it.

Best Regards

Paul

Welcome to the forum.

Your case is very normal, as far as pelvic myoneuropathy/CPPS goes. That may be a re-assurance to you; now you know you can do something about it.

Note: I do not recommend inserting ice into the rectum. If the ice lodges in one spot and sticks, as ice can do on a dryish patch, you could get tissue damage. It would be rare, but it could happen.
Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.

Thank you for the comments and the contact info, I will try and contact Mr Taylor this week and shore up an appointment. Bit of a drive to Edinburgh, but I'm sure it will be worth it.

Thanks again, I will post updates when I can, in the hope that any fellow sufferers can gain as much as I have from reading the posts here.

Best Regards

Have a think about your sex life too mate. I find this very hard to do but even for non-CPPS sufferers over-masturbation and too much sex is not healthy. I recently was seeing 2 girls & having sex in whatever guise 3-4 times with each. When I get with a girl all I want is my "joint" worked on if you know what I mean. :P BUT I realize that this has GOTTA change.

Have you noticed when a woman doesn't want sex its ok but we always have to be up for it?? ITs crap - all night shagging sessions I think for a lot of us are out. but that doesn't mean at all that your sex life is changed for the worst. Its just a healthier way of living. Sex like any other pleasure is to a certain extent a vice and therefore can be compulsive, addictive and a need that covers up anxiety or a need for love etc..

Ya! GP2, I miss those days of being single. Now that's a quality problem.

I encourage anxiety prone UCPPS people to consider L-Theanine
Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.

When I get with a girl all I want is my "joint" worked on if you know what I mean. Razz BUT I realize that this has GOTTA change.
Unfortunately 13 years of chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome has kind of forced a change of "habit" if I can call it that, but I agree that things don't necessarily have to be for the worse in that department. I have developed a unique taste for seafood over these last 10 years :P

Cheers
