Question about Opiate medications

Post by BG0013 »

Hi. Has anybody on here been to the point where the pain got so consistantly bad that they had to turn to opiods rather than only using the valium or Ultram at bad times.
Age 21.. | Symptoms: Extreme discomfort in bladder, and lower abdomen.. To the point that I can't sit still, and sleep, can't do anything.. The only that will help is getting into the bath... Urinary frequency, Urinary hesitancy, sometimes taking a few minutes to get just a little bit out.. Sometimes lower back pain when I lay down at night.. Never have the golf ball feeling everybody talks about, and never have a problem sitting down.. Helps: Hot baths, Xanax (but makes me extremely tired), stretching (it seems like only sometimes), pain killers (ex: Percocet, but if I take them, they end up making me worse the next days following, probably due to the urinary retention they cause).. Makes worse: Stress is the main main thing, caffeine and spicy foods too, but not really a whole whole lot.. only a moderate amount..

I was taking a percocet (oxycodone) every night for three months during my most recent flare-up... personally I would try to stay away from it if you're able; it can be quite addictive... I had to ween myself off of it by taking a half a pill and then a quarter of a pill for a couple weeks.... currently I'm taking valium when my symptoms become intense and melatonin to help me sleep at night and have definately felt less dopey....
44 years old. Chronic Prostatitis (onset age 38) for 6 years. In the midst of worst flare-up of my life. Tried all conventional methods without success. | Symptoms: Severe burning on tip of penis, burning between rectum and scrotum. Meds: Hytrin, Atavan, percocet (all at night). Natural Meds: Quercitin, Vitamin C and E and B Complex, Niacinimide, Salmon Oil, Garlic supplement, cranberry extract, concentrated liquid chlorophyll. | Helped By: warm baths, stretching, running. | Worsened By: not sure but suspect unhealthy eating, stress, negative thoughts.

Slight misunderstanding here: Ultram (tramadol) is an opioid, albeit a synthetic, non-addictive one.

I have yet to hear anyone claim any real differences in effect between Ultram and the non-synthetic opioids.

I'm up to 3 hydrocodone (vicodin) a day. I can't take NSAIDs due to colitis.

I'm taking more now than before I started PT. Since she got to the coccyx, I can't sit down anymore, except maybe a little in the car and eating.

I use heat/cold (helps more now than earlier), relaxation about an hour a day. Xanax helps as much as anything, but that's another addiction issue.

On the up side, the PT is internal now, I can really feel the whole thing shifting in tone and intensity.

I've discussed the addiction with my doctor and my shrink. As long as I'm not feeling good from it (never have had a buzz), they aren't too concerned. I also have to watch that my body doesn't subtly start creating more pain to get more narcotic.
I am not a doctor too!
Age 64, sudden onset 5/06 during bout of flu, colitis, lung and liver problems. Pain in penis, then moved to rectum. No urinary symptoms. Use Lyrica, Elavil, paxil, Xanax, morphine, vicodin, relaxation, pads for sitting, 100+ PT sessions. Sensitive to gluten, milk protein, soy. I have CFS, anxiety, GERD, Barrett's, colitis, kidney stones, one of which referred pain to penis.

the general consensus on the subject is to not do it if you haven't started already, and if you're already on it then get off it when you feel comfortable doing so, learning myself to do trigger point therapy was a greater effect than a heavy prescript painkiller like 3 hydrocodones are, thats why I finally quit
Age: 23 | Onset Age: 21Symptoms: Urinary problems, Sexual problems, Sitting problems. All very painful | Helped By: Hatha yoga, Trigger point therapy, Avoiding sex . Avoiding Sitting. Relaxation. | Worsened By: Sitting for long periods of time. Sex. Being tense.
