Femoral Nerve Block for testicular pain

Post by tacoma13 »

I had a visit with my pain doc today. We had originally discussed doing a guided pudendal nerve block, but now he's thinking a femoral nerve block stands a better chance of helping with my testicular pain. He described the technique to me in detail, including the injection site...which is pretty much to the left or right of the scrotum up in the crease of the thigh and pelvice, and well as the after effects, which will more than likely include a hematoma to the area as well as the testicles themselves turning purple. Actually, some guy had just done the treatment that day and his pain went away. Another patient had one a few weeks prior and was without pain for a whole week, and then the pain came back, yet not as severe. What I'm worried about is of course causing myself more pain and swelling in that area if this doesn't work. I have had two coidal steriod injections, one hypergastric plexus block and one iliolenguinal block, none of them with any success.

Should I try this, or do you guys think it's not advisable? Having heard of two patients that had recent success makes me want to try it, but I'm also extremely skeptical of any new procedure, especially considering the after effects of this particular nerve block.

Frankly, if I were you, I would not do it.

My boyfriend had a femoral nerve block and it was not done that way! The injection was into the pelvic area. The proceedure itself was no big deal but I have to say it made him feel better for 1 day and then worse for 3 weeks, but the doctor that did it has had success with other patients.
