Relaxation

Post by scoobysnacks »

I'm a bit of ashamed to admit that I have not incorporated one bit of relaxation into my daily routine to combat this condition.

When I look I'm about 80-90% better. Is that the missing piece I have not clue.

The main reason I have been so reluctant is because anyone who knows me knows that I'm very even keel type person, no emotional outburts, and fairly laid back. So I thought I dont need relaxation, but maybe I need to finally try to incorporate this as well.

I may have asked before, and I'm sure its been discussed. But, what is the best relaxation tape on the market. I envision I need something that walks me through the steps such as Step 1, close your eyes, step 2 envision blah blah blah, now exhale etc. Do they make something like this.

Thanks!

Scoobysnacks,

I think you need to practice some form of formal relaxation especially as your recovery has been good bar that last 10% or so. When you say "blah blah blah" I guess that you think relaxation practices are somewhat boring. I'm pretty laid back too but also prone to stress and unlike you I can be emotional but whatever personality type you are it can benefit you immensely. The fact is it helps your condition because it calms the nervous system to the point where your body profoundly relaxes in a way not matched in everyday life. And believe me practised well it becomes enjoyable. Look - the Buddhists, deepak chopra & all the meditation gurus can't have got it all wrong. Some quarters & cultures even would argue that deep relaxation is essential to healthy living. Look up the benefits to it on the net. Dont think "this is boring sitting here counting my breaths". Mate - long term you'll get better at it & you'll welcome the insight & the calmness it brings to your everyday life & entire mental state. Remember we spend too much time analysing, thinking, rushing, worrying in the "free west" - silence is golden. Even if just to get away from the world - for me silence (no tv, radio, inner chatter, screaming siblings/ kids) is a must!

Apart from the one David Wise gives you when you go on his course, there's this:

Couldn't agree more! :simsim:

I can't wait for my relaxation time as, not only do I feel better after it and my pain level is 'always' decreased by it, I also adore the time it gives me by myself.

Like you I held this treatment out until the end.

The Awakened mind system (side 2) by Dr. Jeffrey Thompson was recommended to me on this board.

It works great. I finally started using it 10-20 mins every other day for the last few months or so. I notice it really helps any minor symptoms. I was very shocked that such a short stint 10 mins could actually effect my health. The results have been noticeable.

Thanks for the replies.

I am going to purchase one of these tapes and begin.

I had to push my appt with Dr Wise clinic back to December. My wife and I bought a new house. So it would be a little while before Id be trained by him.

I'm going to give it a try, but I just don't think I stress over things. I mean hell we're carrying three mortgages soon, and I just don't ever seem to care. Its driving my wife absolutely crazy.

I wonder if just because I don't verbalize these things, am I still not internally stressed and that's my problem? Hmm...just thinking out loud here.

We did have a heated discussion last night, and I did find my pelvis was pulled up, I had to let it drop by taking some deep breaths. But, again what came first, my tendency to do this, or the fact that now its prone to do this. Argggg!!!!
