Erection and urination

Post by kevin »

I remember reading somewhere that an erection inhibits the need to urinate. (i.e. if you have to go to the bathroom, getting aroused will temporarily stop the feeling of having to go.)

Anyone know the name for this, or an article that discusses it?

Thanks!
Started: Spring 2003; high urinary frequency and pain associated with bladder filling; urinary hesitancy; pubic/prostate/perineal discomfort; Helped by: trigger point therapy, Afrin nasal spray, Cymbalta, hydrocodone (small doses), distraction. Makes worse: sex.

Not medical advice. Consult your doctor.

when you become aroused your body has a valve at the base of the urethra which shuts it off the from the bladder and allows you to ejaculate.

"There is a sphincter (or valve) that closes off the base of the bladder, so that urine cannot be passed during ejaculation. " Says a site I found on google. Though this does not neccesarily inhibit the urge to urinate (the problem some men have here) it simply makes the actual physical process impossible.
Age:22 | Onset Age:16.5 | Symptoms: Pain with extended sitting, Pain shortly folllowing urination, mostly above pubic bone, Pain after defecation mostly around external sphincter, Pain after ejaculation mostly in Urethra | Helped By: Progressive and Moment to Moment Relaxation, Stretching, Bed Rest (laying down and relaxing muscles), Hot Baths, Hot Showers, | Worsened By: Alcohol (variably), Ejaculation, Urination, Defecation, Stress, Extended Sitting, Sleeping in the wrong position, tensing my muscles while writing or doing anything else stressful/intense, Progress: 65%, basically only dealing with post-ejaculatory pain, onset after about an hour, peaks for 3-6 hours and then remains sore for a day.

Till 2 years back, I used to wake up in the morning with a strong erection, and would feel of course the URGE to urinate like anyone in the morning, but Was not able ( I actually did not try , but I felt it was not a good ideato pee on the wall). SO I will sit around for 2- 3 minutes and things will soften ..
Now I wake up with a much weaker erection ( and this is 90% of my chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome frustration) , if I do , and it seems that even with the strongest erections I have these days I am still able to pass urine..

I am still calling for people to tell me any success story erection wise

i would suggest urinating BEFORE sexual activity of any kind. We've probably all ignored the urge to pee to masturbate or have sex but has anyone noticed that the peeing sensation returns right after an orgasm and that it is very difficult to actually get a steady flow? All those tubes are related down there...probably best not interfere with each process.

I also find that I usually have that anno ying sensation that I have to pee after a lot of sex though.
Age:23 | Onset Age:22 | Symptoms:Urinary hesitancy, moderate frequency, urgency and retention, slight perinneum, rectal and leg pain, frequent abdominal/bladder pain. Red/white spotty irritation on penis | Helped By:hot baths or showers, walking and moving around, pain medications | Worsened By: sitting for a long time, holding urine too long. I'd say I'm about 75% better naturally so far.

one caveat about the above recommendation: urination after sexual intercourse or oral sex can reduce the risk of getting harmful flora or bacteria in the urethra (which can lead to UTI's) as it flushes these things out of the urethra, therefore some people (doctors included) have recommend urination for after intercourse, not before.

but if you really, really have to pee, it's almost impossible to perform sexually because that feeling in your bladder doesn't dissipate and I find that the orgasms are very dulled and that any post-orgasm enjoyment is ruined by the urge to piss, which is very hard to do after that I just simply sit down for 10 minutes. I realise that having a good pee cleans out bacteria collected from sex, but getting in on with a full bladder isn't' really practical in my opinion.......IF you want to have fun that is.

oh and I find that for me, after an orgasm (or several), I have to pee within an hour anyway. But it's never a bad idea to flush the pipes out after they've had a long session of exercise.
