Any positive experiences with neurontin?
Has anyone found relief from chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome pain using neurontin? I've read a great deal about the drug and I'm curious if it has helped anyone recently. Are there bad side effects?

I've been taking pretty much the largest dose per day of Neurontin for about three and a half years now (2700mg) and there's no doubt it has helped with the neurological pain. It basically helps for the nerve related sensations in my inner thighs and also for some of the sitting pain. However, only trigger point therapy by my physio has improved that further.
The only side effects I have had are tiredness and memory fog.
Hope this helps
Neil

Yes, things are still pretty good although I did have a bit of a setback last week but nothing too serious just a bit of extra pain brought on by too much decorating!
Yes, I'm still on the Tramadol but I'm currently reducing the dosage to 200mg per day rather than 400mg.
How's the wee one by the way? Must be a few months old now?
Hope you're keeping OK mate.
Neil

Good news on reducing the tramadol dosage - that's a very positive step and good sign of progress.
The little one is doing just great thanks
Smiling, giggling, sitting up, rolling over, holding items, sleeping well at night, etc - and that's just my wife!

I have been on 3200 mg daily for 5 months and have some decrease in pain. I have found that on top of the tiredness and memory fog I get a disconnected feeling from my body but these are lessening . As of lately I am feeling some numbness of the face but then again I am having lidocaine and heprin bladder instillations ( these seem to be working for me so I guess my problem must be bladder related ) plus a host of other meds ( Elavil, hytrin, elmiron, Atarax and oxycodone ).

I've taken a trial a couple of years ago but it did very little for pain relief.
On top of that the side effects are indeed tiredness and difficulty to concentrate so all by all it was not really worth it.

I found that in four months after full doseage the fatigue and concentration difficulty sudsides but have to agree with Benzo there many not be much pain reduction. Yet sometimes a little releif can be greatly apreciated , the side affects where worse than Atarax in my case.

Medications
I have a questions about medications.
Some folks are taking 3-6 medications while others are taking 3-6 completely different medications.
Some report they have been helped.
I know everyone is different but my question is how does one arrive at these different combinations that help them?
Some of these medications take weeks or months to work. Do these folks just keep adding a medication while staying on the old ones or do they try a new one- one at a time and get off the others.
In either case, it seems like it could take years (not to mention money) to develop a combination of drugs that help.
Also how many doctors will keep prescribing drugs just because we ask?
Or do folks get advice from a health professional to try these combinations and see if they work? If not try other combinations.
In my case, I have gotten little advice from health professionals . All the things I have tried I got from this site but only added one at a time.
Some seemed to help while some did not. But then again perhaps some that did not seem to help would help if taken in combination with something else as many on this site reported.
It seems that finding the right combination of drugs that help could be endless.
I am curious how others are doing this.
Is there a "scientific " way to do this?

Re: Any positive experiences with neurontin?
It helped me gain 20lbs (not desirable) but apart from that the pain reduction was so negligeable that I discontinued.Wolf wrote:Has anyone found relief from chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome pain using neurontin? Hi folks. I had a lot of pain for several years and then went to a pain clinic. Neurontin was the first drug prescribed for me at the clinic and there was no effect untill I got to 2700 mgs. a day. At that point I felt the drug just took the edge off my pain. Not much, but it was a great relief. That was more than three years ago and I'm still taking it. I have tried to reduce the dosage, but when I do that the pain increases. Side effects are the same as everyone else reporting here: tiredness (but I have to say I sleep very well), brain fog and weight gain.

While we are on the subject of neurontin, I have a question to ask. Are there any users of Neurontin who, like me, are having an unusual amount of trouble with their teeth? I have regular check-ups and have not previously had to have much dental work, but I just underwent the fourth root canal in about 18 months and I'm beginning to wonder if there is a connection.

That's interesting. I've just seen an orthodontist who thinks I'm grinding my teeth. To my horror I noticed a few weeks ago that I've worn my upper front teeth quite flat. I expect it's part of the same picture of clenching.
With regard to neurontin. I use it quite frequently, though not all the time. When I'm in particular pain I take a 300mg tablet or two and after half an hour or so, I can feel the pain melting away. I find it quite positive.
