Three years today!

Post by scotsman »

It's been 3 years today since I first came down with chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome and I'd just like to thank my fellow moderators and all the posters/vistors on this forum for the help, support and inspiration they've given me over this period. I'm 80% recovered and I've got total belief that I will ultimately be free of this.

Most of us only post about the negative symptoms and outcomes of chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome but I'd like to post what positives, for me, that have come from having this disease.

* Better work/home life balance.
* The relaxation has made me less susceptible to stress.
* I now do things at a slower, more measured pace (rather than everything at 1000 mph).
* I'm more relaxed in general and not so intense.
* Small things that may of bothered me before, now don't.
* My diet is much better (no caffeine, all fresh veg and fruit now).
* I'm doing more exercise.
* In general much more clued up and aware of my body and what's good/bad for it.
* I appreciate the good times more.

I'll still be on this forum on my forth anniversary - but hopefully symptom free :-D

Richard.

Thanks Richard!

I know it's a hard road, especially when there are guys on the boards that find success after a few months or a year or so. Keep up the good work, and let me speak for the newer sufferers of chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome that your words of courage and advice inspire us!

Richard

You're incredibly patient, kind, supportive and knowledgeable. I appreciate that and thank you for it.

I'm slightly surprised you have an 'anniversary' day. Do people's symptoms come on so suddenly? And is there a chance you were suffering before but the pain wasn't conscious - i.e. you weren't aware of it? Personally, I often wonder if I'd been heading for problems for a long time but didn't have the sensitivity to realise it. I kind of wish I was still insensitive to the pain but I suppose, in the end, it's better to know something even if it's painful. At least that way you can work towards good health. I reckon your symptoms will be much better in a year.

For me it started with an infection due to a urine reflux (pain, temperature, etc). Over the next 4 days my other chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome symptoms started to come on. I believe that whilst I perhaps wasn't heading for problems for a long time, the type of personality I have/had gave me a predisposition to developing chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome after the whole pelvis protection thing was triggered by the infection (the antibiotics got rid of the infection component at the start very quickly btw).

Nice one, Richard. There's been many a day when reading your frank and honest account of your condition has helped pick me up. As has been said, this is a disease that is generally self limiting and which improves with time but you have to push it along if you want to get to the end of the journey quicker.

Keep it going and here's to a pain free fourth aniversary!

I wish you all the best in your quest for better health. You are truly inspirational for the effort you are putting in to beat your condition. I am still coming to grips with the one step back phase. That's when I found this forum very useful. Please be around even after getting cured.

Peace!
Joe.
