Working out?
What kind of work out is okay/does not make things worse? Anything that doesn't work the abs pelvic area too much?

I've been told not to lift weights due to the amount of stress it puts on the pelvic area. I have also been told I shouldn't indoor rock climb. Push-ups probably aren't the best either, as well as no direct abdominal work, sit ups, leg lifts etc.
Brisk walking seems to be okay, and for some jogging works well. Yoga also seems to be a good alternative. Dont forget swimming as well.
For me, I can't lift weights without problems which was my passion. Even jogging causes me to get tight, but I still play soccer once a week. I mostly walk in the morning before I eat to burn some body fat and stay fairly lean and in shape. I do yoga about twice a week, just bought a book called Yoga for Regular Guys, and do the routines in there.
Dont neglect stretching the hip/pelvic region.
With that said some guys have no problems with jogging, some guys can pretty much do any exercise and they say it helps symptoms, but the majority of us are rather limited. But, exercise is good for the body and mental health. Find what works for you, and do something. But, remember you are trying not to tax the pelvic region.
Good Luck!

It really depends on your condition. You have to see what works and what doesn't. And if something doesn't work, you just cut it out until you can tolerate it again. After your muscles have been rehabilitated, you'll be able to do some of the things you did before. But remember, you will probably have a propensity for trigger point formation in the areas that already have it - so you might not be able to do some of the exercises the same way. Learn about different techniques that take some of the strain off the pelvis. There are lots of ways to lift weights.

I lift weights and have found that it does no exacerbate my symptoms.
I tried stopping for a month, I tried cutting out abdominal excercises, I tried lighter weights but none of this has made any significant impact.
The only thing I avoid is squatting because that puts a really heavy strain on the thighs and pelvis.
Generally I'd say I feel better after a good workout. It reduces stress levels and improves blood flow.
I think there's one rule of thumb in CPPS: see what works for you. If you feel better and more confident after working out, then keep on doing it.

Agreed, have to find what works for you.
Since stopping weight training I have improved, less inflammation, less tight days etc. So for me right now, unfortunately, that is not the exercise that will help.

For example, I found that hiking up mountains was fine, but speed walking was no good.

* Age:33 Onset: February 2004.
* 99.9% IMPROVEMENT in 2.5 Years with the first year being the really hard part
* Current Symptoms: Mild irritation of perineal muscles on occasion. Relieved for days at a time by a specific stretch (see below).
* Initial Symptoms: Terrible penile, urethral, rectal, and perineal burning/aching with addition afferent sensations.
* Current Treatments: Deep stretching of the legs and pelvis. Most effective: Deep psoas and levitar ani stretch using the first phase of the "pigeon pose" from Yoga. When a deep pulling is felt in the middle of the pelvis next to the upper rectum, symptoms are completely alleviated for several days.
* Past Treatments Hyperprotection of the perineum for 1.7 years, Walking, Rectal biofeedback, Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol, Conditioned deep relaxation practice, Men's Multi-Vitamin and an Extra B-complex pill, all seemed to help.

Same here. It's probably only made my depression worse. I smoke a lot and have become a couch potato.Gettingbetter wrote:I stopped weightlifting for about a year and I didn't notice any improvement. quite the opposite. I felt mentally bad cause I did not excercise
I'm thinking of starting again, but I'm fearful of a flare up. I guess expirimenting is the only way I'll learn.
