Very minor symptoms, but major drop of libido

Post by john_m »

A bit more than half a year ago I had unprotected oral sex and then didn't masturbate for a week or two. Once I did masturbate again, I experienced a strong burning feeling after ejaculation. At first I thought I might have got infected with something from the oral sex, but then recognized that once I started to masturbate more regularly again, I didn't experience any of that pain again.

I'm still not sure if that unprotected oral sex was the trigger of my problems or not, since I masturbated quite regularly before that and I only seemed to experience the pain if I don't masturbate for a while.

Later on I recognized that my libido dropped like crazy. Sometimes it was almost completely gone and I started to feel the need to urinate much more frequently and sometimes had problems to start urinating.

After a while I finally went to a urologist. He didn't find any bacteria in my urine or ejaculate, however still gave me antibiotic for a week. I took those, didn't feel like it changed anything for me though. However one week later, I saw some red very small balls in my urine. Never seen those before. So obviously the antibiotics must have had some kind of effect.

Two months after that, still having close to zero libido and still those issues with urinating, I went to the urologist again. He prescribed alpha blockers which caused very bad side effects (retrograde ejaculation, etc). I stopped taking those. Then he prescribed me another two weeks of antibiotics.

I'm take those for one week now and I've recognized that my ejaculate got back to normal again. It used to be extremely think and clotted. However still no libido. I've tried to listen to my body more during the last days and figured that I'm really tensing my pubic area and abs a lot. I'm not even aware of it most of the time, only when I pay attention to it.

I'm wondering if anybody has any advice for me, especially with my libido problem. I think that has been the worst of all this so far. My symptom right now are:

* Close to zero libido
* Feeling kind of 'bloated'
* Slight Tensions around the pubic area
* Sometimes problems with starting to urinate
* Sometimes feeling like not completely emptying the bladder after just having urinated.

I do NOT have any pain and like I said, I wasn't even aware of how tense my pubic area is until I started to pay more attention to it. It never actively bothered me.

Is there anything I can to do solve all this? Did anybody here experience an increased libido after taking yohimbe?

Thank you!

I found that my libido goes WAY down whenever I have discomfort in the pelvic region. Even mild discomfort causes me to lose interest. I think part of it for a long time was that if there was discomfort, there was real FEAR that a major flare-up would happen. For me, some of my worst pain was right after ejaculation, and I was actually scared to ejaculate for a long time. That, by itself, was enough to keep my libido in check.

These days, however, the fear component is almost non-existant. I've had the condition long enough to know what kinds of pain I might feel, and how bad it might be, and so I am not afraid of my chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome any more, such that it doesn't affect my sex life. Plus, my pain is minimal most of the time, and so I don't really think about it much.

The strange thing is that I don't really have any pain. I used to have slight pain/burning feeling after ejaculation. But I didn't experience that since a while now.

I think part of the my libido is caused by always feel a bit bloated and thereby not feeling comfortable or attractive in general. The tough of somebody touching me does not sound very appealing. Not because I'm afraid of any pain I might experience. It's more like when you ate way too much fun, feel extremly full and not very attractive.

The fact that you can pinpoint some emotional connection to your libido (and that your pain is low) tells me that you have some things you need to work out. Have you talked to a psychologist? Many people don't feel like they are attractive, but that doesn't hurt their libido. Perhaps you just need to have someone help you look at things differently. Change your frame of reference, and perhaps help you build some self-confidence. I'm not sure your chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome is a major factor here.

I was worried that it would come across like that ;) It's not really that I don't feel attractive though.

It's more that the symptoms of the chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome make me feel kind of weird. Feeling bloated, tensions in the pelvic area and the permanent feeling of not having emptied the bladder completely/slight feeling of having to pee.

I've realized before, before I started to deal with this whole issue, that feeling the need to urinate really makes it hard for me to focus on anything sexual. Before this whole chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome thing started, I would just go pee quickly, and would be perfectly fine then.

I guess it has something to do with that it can be really distracting to always feel the slight need to pee, in situations where those lower parts of your body should be in a whole different mindset, no?

Well, and it seems that the feeling bloated and the tensions just add up to that 'distraction'.

John_m,

It is possible for males to get symptom free uro infections, but the probability depends on the disease.

Here, we are well aware that pelvic pain can be easily caused by non-bacterial events.

But if you are seeing odd discharge, had unprotected oral sex just prior to onset, etc, I don't think it would be entirely off base for you to check back with the Uro, etc, take a dose of more powerful antibiotics etc, to rule out the possibility of a latent STD.

On the other hand, if nothing changes after antibiotic regimen, that would be typical of CPPS.

Also, keep in mind that libido is strongly tied to mood, although people tend not to talk about it.

This is not medical advice, and I am NOT a doctor of medicine or a related field.
* Age:33 Onset: February 2004.
* 99.9% IMPROVEMENT in 2.5 Years with the first year being the really hard part
* Current Symptoms: Mild irritation of perineal muscles on occasion. Relieved for days at a time by a specific stretch (see below).
* Initial Symptoms: Terrible penile, urethral, rectal, and perineal burning/aching with addition afferent sensations.
* Current Treatments: Deep stretching of the legs and pelvis. Most effective: Deep psoas and levitar ani stretch using the first phase of the "pigeon pose" from Yoga. When a deep pulling is felt in the middle of the pelvis next to the upper rectum, symptoms are completely alleviated for several days.
* Past Treatments Hyperprotection of the perineum for 1.7 years, Walking, Rectal biofeedback, Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol, Conditioned deep relaxation practice, Men's Multi-Vitamin and an Extra B-complex pill, all seemed to help.

John,

As noted in my first post, even mild distractions, pain or otherwise, caused a problem with my libido. So if you are feeling distracted by a need to urinate, then I can understand where you are coming from. And chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome certainly does place other things on your mind that you'd rather not think about during sexual activity.

Some of the drugs you were on certainly lowered my Libido to a great degree. Hopefully it will return once you are off them for a while.
