getting better

Post by BilleyeDoc »

I have now had prostatitis for almost 2 years. Symptoms started april 24 2004. For about 9 months symptoms were terrible. Now they have decreased. Somedays no problems at all, although I always have the disease in the back of my mind. Do others have a similar experience??
Age: 47 | Onset Age: 45 | Symptoms: frequency, burning in sacral area and left thigh and groin | Helped By: flat in bed, vesicare, exercise | Worsened By: sitting

Glad to hear that you're doing better. I think over time for many people this just goes away. Just try to keep doing what helps and try to forget about it.
Age: 32 | Symptoms: Twingy pain/muscle spasms in groin area (gone), tingling sensation at tip of penis (has resolved as of now), urinary frequency (resolved as of now), thicker/decreased amount of semen (resolved as of now). yes, I have been doing much better....and the most improvements started AFTER I ceased medication use. I did a 6 week course of antibiotics in the beginning of treatment waaaaay back in June and it only got worse and worse until it peaked from August to November in terms of pain and urinary issues. But since Christmas, I stopped taking Elavil which my uro prescribed (because was it crap) and I have steadily been getting better, sometimes where I don't even notice anything wrong. I still have the odd bad pee or a day where my bladder feels tight and sometimes I get a day or two episode of some pain in the perineum but it is nothing like it was. I've regained my sanity and I hope this never, ever gets bad again. I expect, however, that this could very well be a lifelong struggle...my first episode was when I was 17 and it took several months to clear up. It struck again only 5 years later and I"m recovering after nearly the same time period so I will keep track of it to see a pattern if I can.
Age:23 | Onset Age:22 | Symptoms:Urinary hesitancy, moderate frequency, urgency and retention, slight perinneum, rectal and leg pain, frequent abdominal/bladder pain. Red/white spotty irritation on penis | Helped By:hot baths or showers, walking and moving around, pain medications | Worsened By: sitting for a long time, holding urine too long. I'd say I'm about 75% better naturally so far.

This was my experience as well. The first 9 months are bad.

I'm just past the 2 year, 1 month mark, and I have days where I don't even think about it any more.

Many symptom free days.
I still take the Stanford mechanisms very seriously, with a primary focus on the mental calming aspect.

This is not medical advice, and I am NOT a doctor of medicine or a related field.
* Age:33 Onset: February 2004.
* 99.9% IMPROVEMENT in 2.5 Years with the first year being the really hard part
* Current Symptoms: Mild irritation of perineal muscles on occasion. Relieved for days at a time by a specific stretch (see below).
* Initial Symptoms: Terrible penile, urethral, rectal, and perineal burning/aching with addition afferent sensations.
* Current Treatments: Deep stretching of the legs and pelvis. Most effective: Deep psoas and levitar ani stretch using the first phase of the "pigeon pose" from Yoga. When a deep pulling is felt in the middle of the pelvis next to the upper rectum, symptoms are completely alleviated for several days.
* Past Treatments Hyperprotection of the perineum for 1.7 years, Walking, Rectal biofeedback, Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol, Conditioned deep relaxation practice, Men's Multi-Vitamin and an Extra B-complex pill, all seemed to help.

Same for me. Got this last year around end of april. Started with some kind of random infection somewhere in the abdomen witch didn't really hurt much and grew more and more painfull during the 3 months after. I really think I got worse because of drugs like Cipro. As soon as I stopped taking drugs (antibio/pain killer/natural remedies/name it) and tried do live a normal life (without stupid elimination diet and trigger point therapy) I started to get better.. sloooowwly very slowly. It's been almost a year now. It's still there, like a shadow of an ache, witch some random fluctuations that I can't relate to anything, but my life is back to normal.

Thank god I can have a beer on friday night now!

In my case suddenly upon awakening....with bladder infection type symptoms...the rest came on in the next few days...

I agree that things can get better over time. And I really hope all of you do. However, I wouldn't ever let my guard down and think that it will just magically go away. I had some of my worse symptoms almost 20 months into it. Things change all the time, pain moves and new symptoms can come up you never had before. I think most of us have had some remission but also painful flare ups years into this garbage. Usually after some time you can narrow down what caused it, but not always.

I agree 100% that the mental side of it is what you have to continue to work on. You have to learn how to calm yourself.
Age: 45 Onset: 43. | Symptoms: Tightness, spasms, burning and pain in the perineum. Occassional mild pain after urination in the perineum. Helped by: Cardura, quitting caffiene, relaxation, fiber, stand up workstation and some PT a year ago. Makes Worse: ANXIETY, ULTRAM, going to work, sitting or squatting too long, constipation (big problems), stress, and sometimes unexplainable.

In my case, I had gradually increasing tailbone pain for about six months. No big deal.

For about a month before complete onset, I was dribbling pee a bit after I was done urinating. No big deal.

Then one day, after a car trip of about 600 miles, I woke up with terrible burning in the penis and perineum, trembling mucles, unable to pee, etc.

The cascade of suffering began very specifically, therefore, one week after Valentine's day, 2004. Very very sudden and severe onset of the whole total package of suffering.

Now it is pretty much latent.

I do still get some pain sometimes. But usually only when I am very tense and stressed about work.

This is not medical advice, and I am NOT a doctor of medicine or a related field.

I can remember the exact day that I started getting severe testicular pains which quickly spread to my low abdomen. It was June 10th of last year and it just got worse and worse. I have a good memory with that sort of thing. I knew somethign was up because it was totally foreign pain.
