Magnesium stops spasms...no kidding

Post by ml2006 »

Guys,

I posted this again because I wanted to make sure everyone reads it....magnesium flat out stops muscle spasms and we are all working on depleted reserves of it due to our poor diets. Not to mention, magnesium is depleted from our muscles due to stress and anxiety. This deficiency causes muscle spasms. It is a hot topic in the medical world because it is being used for many ailments. Doctors use it to stop pre-labor muscle contractions on pregnant women. This stuff is no joke....I have been taking it for about a month now and along with my stretches I am totally free of spasms. I suggest that you all read up on magnesium and its benefits. Then go out and get a supplement. I feel the best one is the only water soluble product that I know of and it's called "Natural Calm".

If there are any doubters, do your research before buying any supplements. I'm telling you this stuff WORKS!!!

Here's a quick read on it.......

This is very interesting. I've learned last week from my mother that we have in the family a tendency to be magnesium deficient. My mother had to take courses of magnesium for at least 6 months when she was my age. My taunt did the same. My cousin took long courses of magnesium and had her doctor make her eat magneisum rich in addition.
My mother described me that when she was not on a magnesium course, she suffered from cramps, fatigue, irritability, stress and troubles in her cycle. Obviously, I'm not concerned by the latter, however, I do suffer from cramps, fatigue, and I'm quite a nervous guy, quick to be on my nerves.
My mother told be that there is a simple test (Chvostek test) that can be significative of magnesium deficit (for which she was very responsive when she was in need of magnesium).

I have taken an appointement for this week at doctor's to check for that already.

Magnesium is said to cause neuromuscular hyper-excitibility and muscular spasms, so maybe a magnesium deficit could exacerbate our troubles. Certainly worth checking.

I'm telling you...this is no joke. You can't tell if your magnesium deficient from a blood test either because the highest levels of magnesium in your body are stored in your muscles.

I started taking magnesium supplements about three days before I seen this post when I came on this site today so when I seen this site by ml2006 I was very surprised to see it since I just started taking it a few days ago. I am taking MAGNESIUM OXIDE 350 mg per day a lady at a health by choice store in my area told me about it but the reason I visited the store was to try and find out what I could take to help with my bowl problems which have been hell ever since the end of jan 2006 also I started to take celexa in the beginning of feb of 2006 which I think is hurting my bowls as well but that's another subject. She told me magnesium helps with naturally helps promote and maintain regular bowel movements. She also told me to take magnesium glycinate pills in addiction with the magnesium oxide pills which I have yet to do I am just taking the magnesium oxide. NOTE (I take neurontin 1,100 mg per day and you can not take magnesium with in 2hrs of taking neurontin which it tells you this on the precautions papers you get with neurontin for anyone that wants to mix the two medications.)

ml2006 what of medications do you take with the magnesium prescriptions so on and how long have you been dealing with chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome condition months, years ?

ml2006 I take flexeril 10mg, neurontin 1,100 mgs daily, celexa daily, adivan do you take any of these drugs as well?

ml2006 do you take magnesium oxide or magnesium glycinate or some thing else and how many mg do you take of magnesium daily?

For any one that might know on my bottle of magnesium it has a section on it that says (Other Ingredients : Gelatin capsules) what does this mean I can not figure this out ?

ANY HELP WITH THIS I WOULD GRATEFUL

Other than the magnesium supplement, I take a high blood pressure pill. That's it......and I'm recently off of that due to dietary changes. I'm convinced that the more drugs you take the worse your condition becomes.....regardless of what it is...your drugs become a cocktail of dangerous chemicals that alter your mind and physical being. I was dealing with chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome for about six months before I sought physical therapy. After three months of therapy I was 100% free of symptoms. However, eight months later, I endured another stressful episode in my life, stopped my stretching and hence, a flareup. Since the latest flareup, I have virtually maintained a vegeterian lifesyle, lost lots of weight (50 pounds), took the magnesium supplements, daily dose of cod liver oil and basically stretched my symptoms away. I am also following the relaxtion protocol that David Wise emphasizes. Overall, I realized that after my first round of PT, I relaxed my muscles but not my mind. I remained nervous wreck that was filled with anxiety. Today, I have made great strides not only in changing my lifestyle but who I am as a person as well. I no longer stress about everything, blow a fuse over stupid annoyances, etc. I truly believe that in order to conquer this syndrome, you need to put it out of mind and tell yourself that you are the cause of your problems in the first place. ie: obsessiveness, anxiety, stress, etc. Confronting my problems rather than running away from them has helped me immensely.

As Dr. Wise likes to say...."enjoy your life". I have too many reasons to allow the pain to dominate my life....wife, kids, job, etc. I decided during this last bout of pain that I won't allow this to control me. Your mind can be quite powerful if we only learn how to use it effectively. Keep telling yourself that you will beat this, when symptoms flair up do your best to ignore it, tell your pain to go away..you won't be decieved once again.

I hope this makes sense, it works for me. Right now, I'm about 95% there.

Peace-

I take a vitamin supplement (general men's multivitamin) that I have noted, helped my symptoms, particularly when they flared up.

Also, if I am flaring up, I found that eating a banana helps me. Potassium, magnesium, certain vitamin B's. All very cheap, found in food and cheap vitamins you can buy at the store, and very important for muscles and nerves.

Also, the older you are, or the more GI issues you have, the more you should consider the importance of your nutritional intake.

This is not medical advice, and I am NOT a doctor of medicine or a related field.
* Age:33 Onset: February 2004.
* 99.9% IMPROVEMENT in 2.5 Years with the first year being the really hard part
* Current Symptoms: Mild irritation of perineal muscles on occasion. Relieved for days at a time by a specific stretch (see below).
* Initial Symptoms: Terrible penile, urethral, rectal, and perineal burning/aching with addition afferent sensations.
* Current Treatments: Deep stretching of the legs and pelvis. Most effective: Deep psoas and levitar ani stretch using the first phase of the "pigeon pose" from Yoga. When a deep pulling is felt in the middle of the pelvis next to the upper rectum, symptoms are completely alleviated for several days.
* Past Treatments Hyperprotection of the perineum for 1.7 years, Walking, Rectal biofeedback, Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol, Conditioned deep relaxation practice, Men's Multi-Vitamin and an Extra B-complex pill, all seemed to help.

If anyone's taking anti-hypertensive drugs, I've a feeling you've got to be careful with taking extra magnesium.

Would this possibly help with the inflammation of the prostate? and the frequency and urgency?
I am not a medical doctor. Please fill out your signature (click here) ☼ ☼ My Starter List for new members
I encourage anxiety prone UCPPS people to consider L-Theanine
Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.

Interesting... one of my more bothersome symptom is spasm. It just flat out freaking when it happens. Thanksfully, it only happen infrequently.

I also tend to get more cramps. On a bike ride last year I cramped up so bad that I had to hop 5 miles out of the woods in the dark (before my CPPS). I wonder if this is related?

So, banana is good? I'm only taking fish oil and B-complex right now.

There are many. I think it would be best for you to use Google rather than rely on me. If you're on medication you should probably consult a doctor before taking on large doses of substances like Magnesium which are already - for better or worse - delicately balanced in the pulmonary system.

Isn't magnesium citrate (the main ingredient of natural calm) a laxative? Wouldn't we be harming our bowels if we consume magnesium citrate for an extended period of time?
