Does anyone know where to get Physical Therapy for chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome in the Philadelphia area?
I have searched everywhere and cannot seem to find anyone.

Thanks!

Body Rebuilders in Philadelphia

Post by robertpagen »

I went to Body Rebuilders in Bala Cynwood in Nov 2002. They were good and ahead of the curve but too far from New York for my needs.

Philly maybe more of an option for me than a PT trained for chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome in NY. Would you recommend this place in Philly over the NY trained PTs?

Direct experience with PT's

Post by robertpagen »

Let me give you my direct experience.

I only attended Body Rebuilders twice in Nov 2002. I give them all the credit for being the first health practitioners I sat down with to diagnose Male pelvic muscle dysfunction. Keep in mind that in October 2002 I was ready to blow my brains out after a urologist administered urodynamics test which left me in searing pain and urgency, and told me absolutely nothing. The urologist then wanted to follow up with another (THIRD) cystoscopy, which I declined.

Still, driving three hours when you are in pain and have to stop every half hour to piss is not kosher.

I personally did not have any positive results from EMH physical therapy on third ave in NY. I know two others who had more positive experiences.

In NYC, I had solid treatment at Duffy and Bracken. Ann Duffy is a fine, caring woman with a good intellectual framework. I had more than twenty sessions with her.

Eventually I had a particularly pernicious flare and I went two or three times to Marilyn Freedman in Great Neck NY. She is obviously the expert in this area.

Note that my odyssey from 1997 to 2003 effectively bankrupted me. Between taking time off work, forgoing promotions, and paying lots of medical bills for opinions which went nowhere. The upside was that I was so broke that my wife divorced me for free, telling me on April first 2003 that I would never be able to support a family.

I am only now in 2006 no longer feeling the monetary crush of this ailment.

One other practitioner who deserves some credit is Howard Glazer in NYC. I saw Howard once in Nov 2003 and once two years later. He was able to put into perspective several crucial issues about this condition which are too complex to delve into. Psycho sexual issues in regard to having experienced pelvic pain and dysfunction.

I give this info in detail so as to save someone the wasted effort and money of going to doctors and others who have nothing to offer.

The two urologists I found most useful were DR Simon Hall at Mount Sinai and David Kaufman on Central Park South. Robert Moldwin was quite the expert but he is impossible to get follow up appointments with.

Be well,

Robert
