What I don't understand is why urologists don't just treat an enlarged prostate with the simple surgical procedure? Why bother trying that crappy supplement when they can fix it under the kinfe? My grandpa had it done when he was 60 and this ever becomes a problem for me, I'll certainly push for it. why waste time with things that don't really work?
Age:23 | Onset Age:22 | Symptoms:Urinary hesitancy, moderate frequency, urgency and retention, slight perinneum, rectal and leg pain, frequent abdominal/bladder pain. Red/white spotty irritation on penis | Helped By:hot baths or showers, walking and moving around, pain medications | Worsened By: sitting for a long time, holding urine too long. I'd say I'm about 75% better naturally so far.

yeah I guess so but when you're in your 60s and nothing else is working (by that I mean EVERYTHING possible), I'd certainly do it.treynor33 wrote:My friend had that surgery done and lost his ability to get an erection for the rest of his life....not always successful

agree...but I'd think long and hard in your 40s and 50s....my Dad had prostrate cancer at 65 and decided to take it out....end of sex life....but at 65 that decision is easier than at 45....

From what I have read, it is not always the case but it is a high probability due to the nerves that are affected by the delicate surgery. Incontinence is another risk associated with a radical prostatectomy.Dj Smitty wrote:so sexual ability is always impossible without the prostate?treynor33 wrote:agree...but I'd think long and hard in your 40s and 50s....my Dad had prostrate cancer at 65 and decided to take it out....end of sex life....but at 65 that decision is easier than at 45....
Any type of prostate surgery (removal, TURP, etc.) should always be an option of last resort in my non-medical opinion.
