Just dropping by to update/give hope.
Going on my 6th year with "prostatitis" (lol). Since I last posted I got married to a fantastic girl who understands my, um, "pain".
These days it's the same as it was in my last update about 6 months ago:
A bit of a constant ache
Mild frequency
Mild urgency
No sexual issues
All in all, I'm still about 75% better than "those days". Man, I shiver thinking about them.
So, you noobs need to hang in there. I had a 2 year "tour of Hell" with my CPPS. There are no words to describe how awful it was.
But, my condition improved. Life improved. Now I'm 33 and doing pretty damn good. The practice is good. Wife is good. Got 3 dogs, 3 cats and a lot to live for.
Happy 2006 fellas.
Update
One more thing...
...if you don't use a donut cushion at work/in the car, you're really not trying to help yourself.
Age: 41. Onset: 28. Symptoms: perineum burn and urinary. Musts: donut cushion and stay unconstipated.
Rhemium, glad to hear you are doing better. Can you post a little bit about what you did to help yourself, and things that made it better or worse, and possibly what you have learned about your chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome pain? Your experiences could be helpful to others. I find posts that say "hey guys, I'm doing better. see ya!" to be somewhat of a tease.
I want info. :)

This is NOT medical advice. I am NOT a doctor.
Age: 43 CPPS: 10+ Yrs Recovery Status: 80-85% Symptoms: Pain in testicles, scrotum, rectum, prostate, perineum Makes Worse: Anxiety, Tension, too much Nookie Makes Better: Stretching, Abdominal Massage (Go Theracane!), Relaxation

Sure.
The thing that helped me the most is time. Another thing is acceptance - accepting that I have this.
Like I said, my "CP" relented....it kinda "burned out". I still have some annoying days (frequency/urgency/burning, swollen feeling down yonder), but by and large I simply don't think about it.
The other thing that I strongly suggest(ed) is a donut cushion. The only drawback is that it kills my lower back. But I can definitely tell when I don't sit on one. Take for instance this Xmas when I drove 5 hours in one day w/o one. I definitely starting feeling discomfort that night. It seems intuitive to me that the less trauma you put on the perineal area, the better.
Sex does cause some discomfort for me afterwards, especially if it's a longer session. Thankfully my wife likes "wham, bam, thank you m'am" sex. lol
Other than that I'm not sure what helped me. I can tell you what I tried: broccoli broth, Quercetin, Peanuts (lol), vitamins and supps of all kinds, Flomax, etc. Of course, that was back in the day, and I'm not certain that any of them helped me. The only thing that took me out of pain immediately were drainages done by a trained doc. Those REALLY helped.
But it basically relented on its own, I think. My own opinion is that my back problems caused an inflammatory response "down there" that last to this day. My hips and lower back are a wreck still. Some nights it's tough to fall asleep w/o some wine. lol
Hope that helps or brings some people some comfort...or reassurance...like I said, I know CP Hell all to well.

Dave, welcome back.
Reading your post, I'm not convinced that you have fully treated your condition. The fact that the "drainages" helped you is indicative that you'd benefit from trigger point treatment, because it so happens that many men who thought they were getting help from having their prostates mashed were actually getting benefit from the simultaneous stretching and massage of the adjacent levator (and other) muscles.
If you can afford it (and I know you probably can
), think about doing the Stanford thing.

You're probably right - there are things I could still do and haven't yet tried to make things better. But, to be honest, I'm happy where I am right now. I am OK with life and I don't want to risk making things worse. It's worth it to me by a longshot to just let it be. Like I said, I just live with a minor annoyance these days (although I think there was a time where I didn't accept how I feel as well as I do now).
Thanks for the concern and suggestions though. Keep fighting the good fight.
