frequency?

Post by GARYS »

Does anyone else have this or know what could cause it? Its mainly after a bowel movement, but a lot of times after taking a crap, I have to go back in and urinate (even though I uninated when I crapped), and were not talking small amounts of urine either time. Theres other times ( like tonight when I got home from work), I urinated a lot, and not even 15 minutes later I was back in the bathroom going again a lot. This can happen every 15 minutes to 45 minutes for about four trips to the bathroom large amounts of urine. Other days I can cathch myself only going 3 times a day. What could cause this? I know people talk about frequency but they sound like they are only passing small amounts.
Age:33 | Onset Age: 20 | Symptoms: burning urethra after urinating, followed by rush to urinate again, rectal pain after a bowel movement sometimes, frequency. | Helped By: Pyridium and Ativan | Worsened By: stress, sitting and unknown reasons.

I find this all depends on how much you drink. If you drink the suggested 8 glasses of water, plus juice or a coffee/pop, you'll probably pee better and more often. But sometimes I get in this kind of funk too, where I"m peeing like 4 times in two hours, then nothing for the next 5 hours. As long as I'm getting all the pee out well enough, I'd rather go a little more often than normal. There is nothing worse than standing in a public toilet for ten minutes not being able to pee but having the terrible urge to do so. Just awful.
Age:23 | Onset Age:22 | Symptoms:Urinary hesitancy, moderate frequency, urgency and retention, slight perinneum, rectal and leg pain, frequent abdominal/bladder pain. Red/white spotty irritation on penis | Helped By:hot baths or showers, walking and moving around, pain medications | Worsened By: sitting for a long time, holding urine too long. I'd say I'm about 75% better naturally so far.

I get this horrible urgency, where I sprint, pushing over old ladies, for the toilet- only to pee like half a glass. Then I usually have to go again within a half-hour. And I don`t want to hold it in, because I heard George Costanza say that was bad for the kidneys.

Mornings I pee at least twice, because the first time it`s usually very little. And a bowel movement can definetly shake things up a bit, yeah.
Age: 20 Onset: May05 Symptoms Frequency/Urgency, lower ab-bladder pain, perineum pressure, pain in tip and center of penis, sudden shooting pains from lower abdomen to prostate and thighs. Some lower back-pain.Makes worse: stress and worries-usually about health, swimming. Sitting on hard seats. Makes better: Forgetting about it. (Never happens)

For me bowel movements can cause quite strong contractions of my pelvic floor muscles and even the abdominal muscles that sit on top of the bladder, if I were to venture a guess to your question it would be that your muscles go into spasm during a bowel movement (do you usually have pain with your movments?) and that this presses on your bladder or excites the nerves around your bladder and causes the feeling of a need to urinate. Also I think it is a common sensation, for people even without CPPS, to feel the need to urinate when they defecate, I am not sure the reason for this, but this seems to point to a possible correlation between the muscles as well.

If this is the cause of your increased frequency the solution would be working on the muscles which are on top of the bladder through trigger point, massage, and general relaxation...

This is just my opinion and certainly not medical advice.
Age:22 | Onset Age:16.5 | Symptoms: Pain with extended sitting, Pain shortly folllowing urination, mostly above pubic bone, Pain after defecation mostly around external sphincter, Pain after ejaculation mostly in Urethra | Helped By: Progressive and Moment to Moment Relaxation, Stretching, Bed Rest (laying down and relaxing muscles), Hot Baths, Hot Showers, | Worsened By: Alcohol (variably), Ejaculation, Urination, Defecation, Stress, Extended Sitting, Sleeping in the wrong position, tensing my muscles while writing or doing anything else stressful/intense, Progress: 65%, basically only dealing with post-ejaculatory pain, onset after about an hour, peaks for 3-6 hours and then remains sore for a day.

I'd say at least once a week, if not more, I'll have a bowel movement and urinate at the same time, only to have to urinate 20-30 minutes later just like you describe. And that second urination is often a bit more uncomfortable compared to the first.
Age:33 | Onset Age: 21 | Symptoms: Penile/rectal/testicular pain, urgency/frequency, constipation | Helped By: Relaxation, PT, eating healthy, just started some acupuncture-seems to be helping | Worsened By: stress/anxiety, poor diet

I have found the incomplete bladder emptying was helped by Physical therapy and stretching but it took about 9 months to get a handle on it.

Basically the muscles are so jacked up they cannot completely open the urethra fully (to empty the bladder) nor close completely (the dribbling problem).

Your bowel movement may be stretching things internally for you, albeit temporarily. Do squat stretches like crazy.

Age: 44 | Symptoms: Pain in pelvis, Post urination drip. Helped by: Squat stretching, PT, Prelief before banned foods, Vit B, Cystoprotec AFTER foods, singulair after foods, Exercise. Makes worse: Stress, Alcohol (1-2 days after), coffee, Artificial sweeteners, chocolate, tonic Wheat/gluten. Drink a lot of water!!! 95% better to date!

Back in the spring of 2003 I was so stressed that I was exhibiting symptoms for a couple of different things. My chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome was growing steadily worse.

I remember describing the exact symptoms that you describe above to my local family doctor. He of course had no idea of what would be causing that, but did seem to go along with sending me to my urologist for further examination. That lead to the anbiotics/600 mg of Ibuprofen a day.

Of course everything I was dealing with symptom wise was magnified by the stress I was going through. I also think the stretching and PT would have been beneficial.

More recently, I guess I have just gotten used to the voiding cycle, as it doesn't seem like a problem anymore.

HOHOHO I recall telling my ex urologist in Manhattan that my symptoms were worse after defecation He looked at me and told me he saw no connection (2002) he thought I was nuts
Anyway all of what you describe I had experienced. you are looking in the right place at the right events in your physiology.

I've found that bowel movements can either start troubles for me or sometimes actually help me if things are bad. I think using those muscles that are used when we go to the stool, can go either way, depending on how things were before I went. But there definitely is a correlation between stools and pain levels, be it helping or making things worse.
Age: 45 Onset: 43. | Symptoms: Tightness, spasms, burning and pain in the perineum. Occassional mild pain after urination in the perineum. Helped by: Cardura, quitting caffiene, relaxation, fiber, stand up workstation and some PT a year ago. Makes Worse: ANXIETY, ULTRAM, going to work, sitting or squatting too long, constipation (big problems), stress, and sometimes unexplainable.
