I am 36....just got back from the Stanford Protcol (I'll post and offer my positive feedback on that later)...and was amazed at the variety of people who suffer from this.
One big takeaway for me was that it seems that the majority of sufferers have both anterior (urinary problems, sexual pain, etc.) and posterior pain (tailbone, lower back, golf ball).
I am one who has entirely posterior symptoms. Lower back pain, tailbone pain, golf ball feeling. Anyone else out there have nothing but posterior problems?
DO YOU HAVE ONLY 'POSTERIOR' SYMPTOMS? PLEASE READ....

to be honest, I think I'd just rather have what you have....if I could "pick" my symptoms, I'd definitely take constant lower back pain (which I have sometimes anyway) and a sore butt over cutting bladder pains, inability to pee normally and buring perineum/upper thigh pains which are currently plaguing me. :x
Age:23 | Onset Age:22 | Symptoms:Urinary hesitancy, moderate frequency, urgency and retention, slight perinneum, rectal and leg pain, frequent abdominal/bladder pain. Red/white spotty irritation on penis | Helped By:hot baths or showers, walking and moving around, pain medications | Worsened By: sitting for a long time, holding urine too long. I'd say I'm about 75% better naturally so far.

I don't disagree with you, DJ. I consider myself lucky to not have so much of the anterior pain that I see people talking about.
I think I'm a fortunate member of an unfortunate club. I have had several people tell me that their 'golf ball' pain was among the first things to go....that's why I'm asking.
Good luck with your battle...we all need help!! I'm one week into the Stanford Program now....optimistic that it'll help.

that golf ball sensation was only with me very briefly...like maybe a week or two, especially worse after bowel movements. Now it's gone and the lingering effects are what I mentioned. It's very hard to understand. But good luck to you as well. Pain isn't fun in any area of the body.
My mom is having a breakout of shingles (she's 46).... I had never even heard of that before...but apparently it's very painful, but localised.

Ditto... no matter where the pain is, it stinks. If you can feel "lucky" that you have only posterior pain, then that's fine. Whatever it takes for you to feel positive is important. But it's probably not worth rating your symptoms against others on the board. We all want our own pain to go away, no matter where it is, or how severe.
Keep up the protocol, and hopefully in a few months, you'll start seeing good results. Just keep your head down and plow ahead, full steam, and don't worry about the pain. Just grit your way through it, and don't do it half way.
Mike
p.s. my symptoms were and are both anterior (testicular pain is my worst symptom), and posterior (this pain can get bad sometimes, but it's more of a highly uncomfortable pain than it is a debilitating pain).

This is NOT medical advice. I am NOT a doctor.

Cannot Sit
My take is different.
I've had this for four years, and have both sitting pain and urinary problems. Of the two, the sitting pain is far, far worse. The "golf ball" sensation is always there, although some days are better than others. On more severe days, I get pains running through the entire buttocks region, back pains, plus pains through the backs of my thighs.
Regardless of what and where your symptoms are, it certainly isn't any fun.
