Alcohol causing pelvic muscles to spasm

Post by Viking »

Everytime I drink alcohol, my pelvic muscles goes into spasm 5-10 minutes after I start drinking. Then they calm down again after the spasm has gone on for some minutes. Does anyone else experience this? I wonder if it`s psychological or if the chemical ingredients in alcohol causes these spasms. It`s just so weird...

At first, I was scared that my occasional binge drinking/partying and drug use might have set my prostatitis off. I like to have fun every now and then so I was depressed at the prospect of giving up toxins. However, both my GP and Uro said there is no substantial link between this disease and alcohol, though some people feel it is a trigger in worsening symptoms.

I find when I drink I forget about my pains though it causes me to pee a lot more frequently and I have trouble in public washrooms.
Age:23 | Onset Age:22 | Symptoms:Urinary hesitancy, moderate frequency, urgency and retention, slight perinneum, rectal and leg pain, frequent abdominal/bladder pain. Red/white spotty irritation on penis | Helped By:hot baths or showers, walking and moving around, pain medications | Worsened By: sitting for a long time, holding urine too long. I'd say I'm about 75% better naturally so far.

for me alchohol helps - whether its the environment I'm in or the fact I forget about the pain or even the analgesic properties of drink I don't know but for me drink = less pain and no flair

yep, I would say that having 1 or 2 cups of coffee a day irritate my bladder more than anything, but before I had prostatitis, I never paid much heed to it.

Alcohol definitely doesn't make me hurt any more than normal...just the frequent peeing, especially when I pound back many beers in a relatively short time (11pm to bar close, 2am). typically, I have to go in a bar 2-3 times, then two more times after leaving. It's the price to pay to get drunk.

My main problem with drinking and going out is the horrible public urinals. While I stand waiting for the dripping to start, others come and go, emptying their bladders like they have fire-hoses attached in the front. I want to kill myself when strangers comment how much time I'm taking"¦truly humiliating
I have noticed that my stream often feels a bit worse when I'm drinking, or at least it is a lot harder getting it started. But maybe it's just mental"¦

for me I find it easier after a drink and so thats what pretty much confirms the muscle theory for me. Thinking about pain reduction it must be muscles relaxing die to the drink and environment rather than the analgesic properties as I feel 'better' after a single beer - Definately a mind body thing.

I find that alcohol immediately alleviates symptoms and pain for that day and the following day.

After that, (two days later) as you are "coming down" invariably my body will be in more pain than when I started.

Pay attention to this as you consume.

Saturday's gain = Monday's pain.

I believe my situation may be the same. It's not consistent but the best I feel is usually once I've drank enough and the next day...and then Monday or Tuesday things get worse.
Age: 45 Onset: 43. | Symptoms: Tightness, spasms, burning and pain in the perineum. Occassional mild pain after urination in the perineum. People's mood also tend to react differently to alcohol. Some get more anxious, some become joyful, for some it bring all the bad memories, while for others it make them forget..

Most of the time Alcohol is just great for me. And on the rare occasion when I do feel blue and down after drinking, the pain comes back.
I thought it's quite interesting

I also get anxious in public toilets. But I think i've always been that way...just the thought of some dude beside you is unbearable. But what I do is just wait to get into the actual toilet stall. Lock the door, relax and take your time. I've been doing this for years and it helps quite a bit...especially if your'e drunk, take as much time as you want. I've never been to Norway but I assume there is at least one or two stalls along with the several urinals.

Public relief

Post by robertpagen »

I am glad someone can relate to what that was like. For years I experienced what you guys described. It was maddening. I think some guys thought I stayed in the toilet for so long that I must be cruising for action.

I was at a rave party back in June when my urinary symptoms first started...I was on ecstacy (despite some fears, I doubt this caused my problem) so I was drinking a lot of water and naturally you have to pee. So there I am struggling, straining to get it out...all the stalls were locked so I had no choice. People were staring at me and finally I got so frustrated I just said "I have a fucking prostate problem so fuck off!"

It worked.

Thanks for the tip

And we do have stalls here in Norway, but at one of the clubs I go to the stalls are unisex, so you have to stand in line with only women- and they assume you have to take a dump since you need to use a stall... Not the best way to pick up someone  But who really cares...right?

unisex stalls? Wow...I"ve never seen any of those before. In some bathrooms in the US, there are no doors in the stalls but only dividing walls. I think privacy is important for people, male or female.

But yeah, you can yell at people too! then they'll leave you alone. :)

spasm

Post by inflamed »

Two thoughts Viking, but am only shooting in the dark, some ingredient in the alcohol causes your syptoms e.g. wheat
or when you drink your muscles are trying to relax and are not used to this so are going into spasm.
