Viking,

Where were you on that Saturday when you relaxed your abdomen?

This is not medical advice, and I am NOT a doctor of medicine or a related field.
* Age:33 Onset: February 2004.
* 99.9% IMPROVEMENT in 2.5 Years with the first year being the really hard part
* Current Symptoms: Mild irritation of perineal muscles on occasion. Relieved for days at a time by a specific stretch (see below).
* Initial Symptoms: Terrible penile, urethral, rectal, and perineal burning/aching with addition afferent sensations.
* Current Treatments: Deep stretching of the legs and pelvis. Most effective: Deep psoas and levitar ani stretch using the first phase of the "pigeon pose" from Yoga. When a deep pulling is felt in the middle of the pelvis next to the upper rectum, symptoms are completely alleviated for several days.
* Past Treatments Hyperprotection of the perineum for 1.7 years, Walking, Rectal biofeedback, Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol, Conditioned deep relaxation practice, Men's Multi-Vitamin and an Extra B-complex pill, all seemed to help.

`Out of the ten plus years that I have dealt with this problem, relaxing my abdominal muscles (looking like I have a huge belly) has been the one and only thing I have ever done that seemed to really help. For some reason I sarted doing this about a week or two before I seen this post and noticed a HUGE improvement in my symptoms. I also started Effexor at the same time. I felt like I was really onto something. I dont like the Effexor because it makes my legs and feet really restless, but if I miss a day of it I get a really bad case of brain fog. I would stop all togeather but I didn't want to take any chances since I dont know if the Effexor was helping or relaxing my abs. I didn't say anything to anyone for the whole month that I was feeling about 85% better because I didn't want to gincks it, but then last night I started feeling bad again (I really hope its just temporary!!!) I really doubt the Effexor is what was making me so much better, but relaxing the abs was the key. What do you think? And to you guys who I have read about, did it get better again?
Thanks

GARYS,

What dose of Effexor are you taking?

Hey Garys,

In my experience, the brain fog always happens with withdrawal but goes away after a few days. Then the achathesia and flu like symptoms start to kick in and get worse over time for a few weeks. The withdrawal from Effexor was, for me, quite severe. If you were to get off of that medication, you would be best to taper off slowly with the help of your GP. I do not take Effexor now. But I do know that of the antidepressants, Effexor was the most effective for helping with my anxiety and obsessions. Therefore, maybe the Effexor is helping you!

In any case, don't get discouraged by the cycling of the pain. The fact that you experienced 85% improvement for some time indicates that you can keep getting better. Over time, you can make the good periods last much longer and the return of pain much shorter.

I know from first hand experience how you feel about the return of symptoms. It gets me down, too, and still happens occasionally. But just remember that it cycles like this, and that if you see times with improvement, and identify conditions that you think help, then you are doing well.
