Sex vs. Masturbation

Post by Wolf »

I have noticed a strange aspect of my chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome over the past year. Masturbation hurts a lot more than sex. What I mean by this is the post-ejaculation sting and/or pain is much less after sex than it is after masturbating. I have no idea why this is. I have masturbated happily since my teens and never had any issues regarding this. Of course it's a total bummer to have something that has always been relaxing and fun turn into something painful. I was wondering if others have found differences between sex and masturbation when it comes to post-orgasm pain.

Coital orgasm and ejaculation are usually much more forceful than the masturbatory equivalent. The increased nerve and muscle activity is the culprit.

So wouldn't that mean masturbation should hurt LESS than sex? For me it's just the opposite. It's very strange.

I think I mentionned the same problem in an earlier post.
Unless I am in a really bad period, (a really bad flare up) then sex does NOT hurt.
Otherwise masturbation is 95% of the time followed by a disomfort.
Most commonly a form of pinged nerve that makes some tingeling and discomfort feeling in my scortum and down to my legs.

I had the feeling that one of these factors might contribute in makig masturbation worse for me :

- In masturbation I tend to start and stop, then restart
- My muscles are more tense, and my muscles get tired a bit
- If it's done on a chair , I feel it is the worse, cause we tense in some way that maybe our fragile pelvis can't take it.
- (tell me what do you think about this one ) I do tend to blame myself for this activity, so I am never doing it and being completley happy about it ( ==> more tense ) + ( ==> sometimes I want to just stop , and fight the urge)

Wolf, or anybody who share this particular problem, can you tell me if one of the above is relevant for you ?

I am quite convinced that masturbation is at the heart of my problem have a decent contribution to the crappy life I am living today

But why us while millions others are doing just fine with 3 times a day ? Have no idea.
I am wondering here if somoene knows about studies, on the effect of masturbation on prostate health and erectile function.

Some males, perhaps you too, find that masturbation requires a tremendous tensing of the pelvic muscles in order to achieve orgasm in the absence of the usual glans/vagina friction. I suggest trying to achieve orgasm without tensing the pelvic floor, and frequency not more than 2x weekly.

length matters

Also, if I might ask, how long do you masturbate? Are these two hour marathon sessions? Three hours? Four hours?

Four hours of an erection will irritate anybody.

This is not medical advice, and I am NOT a doctor of medicine or a related field.
* Age:33 Onset: February 2004.
* 99.9% IMPROVEMENT in 2.5 Years with the first year being the really hard part
* Current Symptoms: Mild irritation of perineal muscles on occasion. Relieved for days at a time by a specific stretch (see below).
* Initial Symptoms: Terrible penile, urethral, rectal, and perineal burning/aching with addition afferent sensations.
* Current Treatments: Deep stretching of the legs and pelvis. Most effective: Deep psoas and levitar ani stretch using the first phase of the "pigeon pose" from Yoga. When a deep pulling is felt in the middle of the pelvis next to the upper rectum, symptoms are completely alleviated for several days.
* Past Treatments Hyperprotection of the perineum for 1.7 years, Walking, Rectal biofeedback, Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol, Conditioned deep relaxation practice, Men's Multi-Vitamin and an Extra B-complex pill, all seemed to help.

 If nobody wants to answer that one, I understand.

Think of it as a rhetorical question. Just keep in mind that compulsive masturbation sessions that last hours could spell irritation for anybody, let alone someone with CPPS.

You have got to be kidding. when I was symptomatic I was lucky if I could last 30 seconds when I masturbated. It was very unsatisfying and did not even relieve tension. Then I would often do it again to try to get rid of the burn I felt. I wish someone had told me in my health class in Junior High the down side of masturbationf . I nstead they just tell the kids its fine. Sexual education in this modern society is useless.

dont Wack!

Pelvic pain and ache and burning resulting in Compulsive mas

Post by robertpagen »

My symptoms often irritated me and gave me the illusion that I could get relief by masturbating, (which did not happen). I was also anxious as a teen and sought to relax through masturbation. I suggest to teens reading this that that is not a good way. Of course when I was a teen there was no real source of good info in the 1980's. Most of the books I read at that time shied away from specific talk. Masturbation certainly exacerbated my pain.

I definitely agree with a few comments here. (good common sense approaches)

-Orgasm through intercourse can create a more intense experience and may be more strenuous on the muscles.

-Orgasm by masturbation may be less intense. However, sessions that keep you erect for hours may be just as bad, or even worse, as a thrilling hop in the sack.

Age: 31 | Onset Age: 28
Symptoms: Pain in perineum, tight sphincter muscles, referred pain at tip of penis.
Helped By: sleep, hot baths, relaxation, stretching protocol.
Worsened By: Sitting and stress. No connection with food, alcohol or caffeine.

a flare up seems to create a hyper ache for sexual release which I notice is no there when I am OK. It is further more a vicious cycle as indulging in sex just makes the need worse without relief.

BREAK THE CYCLE

I agree. You have to break the cycle. I think the urge to ejaculate is higher during flareups for me too. And I think I've needed to ejaculate to reduce anxiety too. So this post has been right on for my case.

Breaking the cycle was hard for me. I gave up sex for a while (see my other posts). But it helped. And now I'm on top of things, and having sex again!

I agree with you both save the MOJOfor the real thing

Post by robertpagen »

Internet porn just makes me edgy, and it ruins the computer. Use precious mojo for the real thing.

Like some of the other posters when I am having a flare up I get extremly horney and I also get a feeling well if I do release the tension down there this feeling will go away and I regret it later so when I am feeling good that pressure and tightness is not there. I some times if it is a painful bowl movement I get a tight and pressure feeling in my perineum and some erections as well any one else get this feeling?

Masturbation does not spread HIV, HSV-2, HPV, hepatitis, syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, and other STDs. It doesn't result in unwanted pregnancies. Why on earth would health classes focus on the "dangers" of masturbation, considering masturbation is safe and absolutely normal for the average, healthy teenager, when health classes could focus on the real dangers of unsafe sex?

BTW, masturbating 2-3x weekly is KEY to keeping my symptoms at bay.
