Succes with internal massage!

Post by Gettingbetter »

About 1 inch up my rectum(perineum side) I've always had this hard "edge" running from side to side. I've always thought this was a bone so I never bothered to massage it but yesterday night I gave it a shot. Now I realize it must be a taut band of muscle. I can't say that I found any trigger points in it that referred any pain, but perhaps they are buried under this hard muscle. After about 10 min of pressing and massaging it began to loosen up and I felt this amazing release in my legs, hips, abdomen and even in my neck. In fact I became so relaxed in my whole body and mind that I went to sleep almost immediatly. Today I still feel great. Now I have some questions:

1. Anyone else had any luck massaging this muscle?

2.What's the name of this muscle

3.How often should I massage it?

4.How could massaging this one muscle make such a difference in my whole body?

5.I have another taut band of muscle(?) running diagonal(left side) from my lower rib down towards my pubic bone and it feels like a thick sausage. It's very hard to massage 'cause my fingers tend to slip away from it. What is this?

Ok thanks.......I think it is the superficial transverse perenial muscle (what a name!! :) ) It must be...

We'll have to call it the "STPM." Gotta love science! One of the possible biomarkers being investigated by IC researchers is called "heparin-binding epidermal growth factor-like growth factor" (HB-EGF). Who the hell came up with that name?

If the transverse perenial muscle is bothering you, you can also access it by pressing 1 inch "north" of the anus in the perineum. You can reach the central point of all those muscles that come together there. This area is very painful for me and I work on it quite often.

You mean external massage? Can I use my Theracane there?

Yes, I find that if I push on the outside right on the perineum above the anal opening, I can really dig into that muscle. If you hit "bone", you've gone too far towards the scrotum. You're working just above the anus, but only by a half-inch. Do both, and you'll probably get even more relief.

Gettingbetter and CppsDad these muscles you are talking about in the perineum are they massaged by doing it externaly on the perineum? My pt has spent months massaging this area but it still get tight? Any help I would be grateful?

ZR, you can do both. I work mostly externally, pressing with my Theracane.

Same muscle

Post by MC »

That was the same first muscle that I found to be tight. Your description exactly matches mine posted a while back. I use the Theracane internally to get at the transverse muscle. I have also used my index finger which I think is actually better since you can really feel what you are doing. The only problem is that the work fatigues my finger really quick. But even after working out the transverse muscle I still found other points of pain and/or tightness especially along the rear of the anus. I'd say about 1/2 inch in and toward the tailbone. That area is still very sensitive and hard to stretch out.

Good luck!

You have the coccyx back there. This area is very sensitive, much like the funny bone in youir elbow. It will probably always hurt when press it, but it can also likewise transmit a lot of pain throughout the region. Mine has always been extremely sensitive too. Work this area carefully, and hopefully you'll see some results.

Reading this post, I've tried yesterday to feel this area. I have found a small hard ball on the perineum, just half a centimeter below the anus. Pressing it is not really painful, and get the whole area much less contracted. It makes my testicles go down (much like they were before CPPS, not contracted and up like they are on CPPS), and I feel my muscles decontracting.
Is this a TP ? Should I massage this regulary ?

MJACOBS, Can you answer me a few questions if you do not mind or anyone else for that matter that might know. So you use your Theracane on the muscles in the perineum externally what part of the Theracane do you use on the perineum the reason I ask is because it looks really big and by the pic I can not see how you would use it there? I have heard it comes with a booklet or a cd on how to use it and people have said it is intuitive to use what did your come with? The page on the Theracane on the top of this page from amazon does it come with a cd I would profer a cd? I have been going to physical therapy for a while now and she does internal therapy on me just how hard is it for some one to do therapy on ones self in the rectum like it was talked about on this page for me it makes me nerves to go up into my rectum let alone do therapy on myself? Should I ask the therapist about this and if she will teach me to do the therapy on myself?

h92, when you say "half centimeter below the anus", which direction do you mean? towards your pubic bone? or towards your testicles?

ZR, I typically stick the tip of the curved end right on my perineum, just about a half-inch from my anus towards my testicles. I then work a little to the side, and also around the anus, pressing pretty hard. I usually go just on the inside of the anus (1 centimeter), and press in all directions from that spot too. I don't usually do internal work with my Theracane, although I have done so before and I have had good results with it. Since you have a therapist, however, you might as well let him/her continue with the internal work, and you concentrate on the external work as I described above. My Theracane did come with a booklet on trigger points, but I never referred to it. You'll do OK if you listen to your body, and go slow. As you gain experience, you'll learn what you can press on and what you can't.
