Have my first PT apt on Wed

Post by BG0013 »

I have made my first PT appointment for this wednesday, with Stacey Futterman, in NYC. I hear good things about her from this site, and I'm hoping that she can fix me, and I can get back to my good old normal (but this time more relaxed) self...
Age 21.. | Symptoms: Extreme discomfort in bladder, and lower abdomen.. To the point that I can't sit still, and sleep, can't do anything.. The only that will help is getting into the bath... Urinary frequency, Urinary hesitancy, sometimes taking a few minutes to get just a little bit out.. Sometimes lower back pain when I lay down at night.. Never have the golf ball feeling everybody talks about, and never have a problem sitting down.. Helps: Hot baths, Xanax (but makes me extremely tired), stretching (it seems like only sometimes), pain killers (ex: Percocet, but if I take them, they end up making me worse the next days following, probably due to the urinary retention they cause).. Makes worse: Stress is the main main thing, caffeine and spicy foods too, but not really a whole whole lot.. only a moderate amount..

What should I expect for the first visit?

If you are like me, expect a lot of anxiety about your first visit. I'm sure you already know that you will be somewhat anxious, but in all seriousness, this made the whole first visit tougher. I had to take a Xanax before mine!

I was worried that they would press somewhere and it would start off a massive flare-up. This didn't happen, although my PT did find some sore spots.

You will probably get a general eval the first time. It won't necessarily be the most intense session you have. It will consist of external evaluation, some internal evaluation, and a lot of verbal communication. I would expect your second visit to be more direct and go straight to the physical work. However, if your session is long (90 minutes or more), you might get to a lot more physical stuff the first time out.

Expect some soreness and/or flare-ups (severity unknown - depends on how well she hits the spots).

Thanks Mike... I hear that a lot of times urinary frequency issues drop a lot after only the first visit... I'm not going to get my hopes up, but is this true? That is really my main issue... I just started the stretches from the headache in the pelvis, and also taking a bath a day, and that is helping me a lot... So I'm hoping that this helps it enough to where I can just do my stretches every day and not even notice this thing I have... Thanks for all your help..

BTW, I appreciate you guys running this site, especially the admin... I will make a contribution within the next two weeks, on my next pay check... It isn't going to be ne thing huge, because its hard right now with having to pay for this PT, plus my job is paid on commission, and I havn't been making the money I used to before I had this...

I don't want to say to lower your expectations, but don't get upset if you aren't the one who's urinary frequency drops the first time out. I was hoping I was the one who only needed 3 visits before seeing improvement, but I wasn't. And you probably won't be either. I'm sure that group is small. Urinary frequency isn't my main problem, however, so I can't say with any reliability what you will experience.

Thanks, but Mark deserves 99% of the credit. Don't donate more than you can afford. If you have financial issues, even a donation of $10 would be greatly appreciated! Good luck with the PT appointment.

Hey everybody. The first visit went really good... She did a little bit of external work, and found a few painful spots, that she worked out... I already feel a little better, as far as my frequency, and lower back pain... I'm hoping after these next 4 sessions, I dont need to keep going, or maybe just once a month or soo, instead of every week, as it is very expensive, and I dont have insurace... But so far, I'm happy, and she was very good... If anybody is in NYC area, call Stacey Futterman, from H and D Physical Therapy...

the cost of Physical Therapy

Post by robertpagen »

How much is each session costing? This is an important consideration for those without health insurance.

180.00 per session... I to do not have insurance, and it is very rough. But honestly speaking, even if you hve to take a loan out, its worth it. One session has helped...i couldn't only imagine after a few more...

Just remember, not all sessions feel like positive steps, even though they all may make some progress. The painful spots will vary, in both location and intensity, as she makes her way through the therapy. Hang in there, and good luck!

ddt1974, yes they will. but you can get a lot of benefit from working on your abdominals too, as well as your perineum, lower back, hamstrings, gluts, etc... my therapist was spending only 1/3 of the session internally.
