I have really been trying to stretch my abdominal muscles lately and having my wife push on some sore spots. Anyway I have been getting a lot of frequency and a lot of disscomfort in the whole abdominal area. I am just wondering if anyone else has had a similiar experience or if maybe I'm doing it wrong and just causing TPs to get aggravated. (how can you tell the difference). I really stretch backwards with my hands over my head and lying on the ground pushing up w/ my arms. Is it good to stretch every day? When I flew to Chicago to see Rhonda Katarinos I dont remember her even checking my abdominal muscles, and if she did she didn't say anything about them, she just said my pelvic muscles were very short and tight. I really wish I could afford to go & see Dr. Wise!!
Thanks,
Gary

Gary,
Abdominals muscles can play a big part of CPPS. They are my toughest source of pain at the moment. It's too bad your PT didn't even assess them. I recommend a Theracane if you want to do more abominal work. As far as frequency of stretching, I recommend stretching every day, although PT on your abdominals 3-4 times per week, give or take depending on your recovery. I have noticed huge flareups when I work on them, so I don't mess around - when I work on them I REALLY work on them so as not to be in pain for no reason. But I can't say much about urinary frequency being better or worse. Mine has been fairly constant regardless of whether I work on my abdominals or not. My abdominals are more a source of pain for me than they are urinary culprits.

My abs up until a few weeks ago were in great shape...now when I do the stretching and stuff it hurts like crazy - especially around my hernia scar. My "non medical advice guess" is take it slow and easy, heat things up before stretching to help out and remember what the yoga people say..."whatever your maximum is - IS your 100%"...so dont feel that you have to "superstretch" like most of us (well, me at least) always want to aim for.
I've only been working with the stretches from AHIP for about a week but I'm seeing that they get a bit easier every day and I can take them a tiny bit further too.
For what it is worth.

Thanks for the resplies!! Its a little (a lot) scary when your doing something that really increases your pain, for me its always been urethral burning after urinating and a constant need to go. And doing these streches and massage are causing these problems to come back pretty bad. I keep debating wheather or not to keep going since I dont know if it will eventually help. I guess Ill just keep praying that the increase in symptoms is a good thing and continue treating them.

This entire recovery depends on faith that the treatment will work out. I know exactly what you are going through. The best thing to do is to not look at the short term results. Tell yourself that you aren't even going to evaluate your progress for 2-3 months (MINIMUM), perhaps 6 months. Then, you just stick your head down and plow forward at full speed.
