Internal Trigger Point Question

Post by brianinthenorthwoods »

Is it practical or even possible to do Internal Trigger Point on yourself? Where can you find the wand that one would need in order to do this? As always any suggestions are appreciated.

I do internal triggerpoint work on myself 3 times a week.

You don't need a wand - just use your own index fingers. You'd be amazed how little you need to go in to do the work (anything from a couple of mm to a couple inches). I remember asking my physio at the start how far he was going in one time, as it felt like he was up to his elbow, only for him to tell me that he wasn't even to the first joint on his index finger.

The new edition (3rd) of the Headache in the Pelvis has diagrams of internal triggerpoint areas with a finger graphic on top. Worth a look.

but if go deeper (using something), not toward the prostate but to the right or especially left there is a incredible pain, and I do think it is a trigger point. I think Dr Anderson went that deep. don t you think you might be missing those important points ?

I've had around 50 PT sessions as well with a physio - who, just via the angle of treatment has, I believe, covered the whole area.

However, I've not had physio from him since before Xmas and it's entirely feasible that there are triggerpoints around that I'm not reaching myself.

If there was a good tool available then I would probably try it out, in conjunction to using my own fingers (I do have long fingers btw and I'm very supple) but I would probably miss the feedback my own finger tips gave me.

He means physical therapist I believe.

Back to the original question though - some people aren't very flexible, and can't quite do work internally so easily. Richard, I think it would be informative if you actually described how you do the internal work on yourself, such as what position you lay in, how you reach down there, etc... as well as how long it took you to be able to achieve the flexibility you must now have.

Brian, if you want a massage implement, I use the Crystal Wand when I don't have a partner or therapist to help me. Richard is right that you don't get feedback, so it's not ideal. But it works and you can reach a lot of trigger points.

Yes, a physical therapist.

I lie on the floor, first on my left hand side and use a non-latex glove with some KY jelly on my right hand. I reach down between my legs and, after inserting my finger in my anus, I do the triggerpoints at 12 o'clock (basically right under my perineum) then extract my finger and draw my right leg up and reach around behind it (i.e. not through my legs) and do the triggerpoints from 6 o'clock round to 12 o'clock at that side (the right). Once I've done them I turn over and lie on the right and do the same as before but with my left hand. It usually takes me around 20 mins per session to do both sides. I've been paying a lot of attention recently to the area around my coxic - and when treating that I've been lying more on my stomach and reaching right round (with either hand).

I've always been very flexible. I did Ninjitsu (a martial art) for 4 years which certainly helped. I'm also pretty tall (6'4") with long arms and fingers which helps.

I think I'll send off for a crystal wand as well - certainly worth trying it out to make sure I'm not missing some deeper triggerpoints.

Physical therapist, AKA physiotherapist; hence the abbreviation "physio." Capice?

Mike - re the Crystal Wand. Would you recommend the 'normal' one or the Deluxe one (thinner) - both shown at the top of this web page.

On the plus side, these perspex sex toys are extremely strong. I had one sent to me as a sample and I can affirm that they are pretty tough items. I'm referring here to the thicker of the two probes. [Click on pic to go to a different website]

You can buy it pretty cheaply (~$36) from Drugstore.com:

The thinner one looks much less safe.

Regarding "Lucite" the material used in its construction (from Dupont website):
Lucite® methyl methacrylate polymer was among the first plastics derived from petrochemicals. DuPont chemists discovered Lucite® in 1931 while exploring the high-pressure technology developed for ammonia production. The polymer's crystal-clear appearance and its strength were far superior to nitrocellulose-based plastics. Lucite® was in heavy demand during World War II for use in windshields, nose cones, and gunner turrets for bombers and fighter planes. After the war, DuPont marketed it for use in a variety of decorative and functional uses, such as lamps, hairbrushes and jewelry.

Unfortunately for DuPont, the Rohm & Haas Chemical Company discovered methyl methacrylate at about the same time and developed it under the name Plexiglas®. A third player, ICI, developed a more efficient production process. Both DuPont and Rohm & Haas licensed the process and began commercial production in 1936. Lucite®, however, never generated substantial earnings for DuPont. Since it was that company's primary product, Rohm & Haas was able to commit more resources to Plexiglas® and it consistently undercut DuPont in price. While sales of polymethyl methacrylate dwindled, the Lucite® name lived on. During the 1950s, DuPont developed two distinct lines of acrylic resin coatings: Lucite® acrylic automobile finish lacquers, marketed commercially in 1956; and Lucite® acrylic paints, introduced to consumers in 1960. In 1963 DuPont commercialized an exterior, acrylic Lucite® house paint, and 10 years later introduced a Lucite® interior enamel with Teflon® E added. These products never caught hold, however. DuPont sold its consumer paint business in 1983 and its acrylic resin operations 10 years later. Today the Lucite® name is carried on in the DuPont line of commercial acrylic automotive lacquers.

I think I have the thicker one. I can't comment on the thinner one. I will say that my one big complaint with the crystal wand is that it is small (short), and hard to hold sometimes once it has been inserted into the rectum and you have lubricant all over your hand. I definitely would feel uncomfortable with the thinner version, as I would worry it would break (I don't want to worry about being gentle). Also, because the wand is HARD, it already hurts more than a soft finger pressing into a trigger point. I think using a thinner wand would hurt even worse.

I'm stooping all right. Definitely stooping...
