Prostatitis or Back problem

Post by Marko959 »

Hi Everybody,

My problem has been going on for a little over a year and my memory is a little hazy as to the order of when things started happening, but I'll list out what happened, symptoms, etc.

1. A little over a year ago, I developed a urinary tract infection. It was treated with Levaquin and the symptoms went away.

2. Three weeks later, I experienced testicle pain after sex, which has continued on and off up to the present. For days and weeks afterward, I would get a pain in my left butt cheek at night and have to take Tylenol or Ibuprofen.

3. Around the same time, I was doing stomach crunches on a bench that was tilted upward. I felt a sharp pain in my lower back, slightly above the tailbone. This pain has continued on and off for around the same time frame as the testicle pain. Unfortunately, I do not remember which came first, the back pain or the testicle pain.

4. I was given Levaquin by my doctor, which did nothing. Prostate was massaged for fluid and did not reveal an infection. No infection in urine. I decided to live with it.

5. Went back to my doctor in August and was given a month's supply of Doxacycline. Didn't do anything except screw up my stomach. Went back to the doctor in December. Prostate is normal, if not undersized for my age(46). Probably because I take Proscar and Cardura.

6. Went to a sports medicine doctor in September about my back. I thought maybe it could be causing the Prostate problems. He did a CT scan, which did not find anything.

7. My testicle pain seemed to go into remission for awhile. Then it came back when I had sex 3 times in one day. Despite some of the information about frequent sex helping the prostate, this does not work for me, and in fact makes things much worse.

8. I do not get the pain in the butt cheek anymore, but the lower back pain increased a couple of weeks ago after sitting in the bath tub. Also seemed to make it worse when I sat on the exercise bicycle for 15 minutes a couple of days ago.

My urologist thinks I have chronic prostatitis. My regular doctor has me going to get an MRI today on my lower back, just to make sure this isn't the back bothering the prostate, since I guess they have interconnected nerves.

Does anybody have any ideas for on what might be happening to me? I can give more information if needed.

Thanks

Sorry for the late reply. I thought I replied before this, but it didn't take for some reason.

I do have a split urine stream sometimes, but not all of the time. It's kind of been that way for a while.

The pain after sex usually happens the next day. The 3 times in one day was extraordinary, and it won't happen again if I can help it. I try to keep it at 2-3 times a month. At my age(46) that's ok with me. All the literature saying more sex is better for the prostate doesn't work for me. It definitely gets worse.

My MRI came back negative for anything wrong structurally with the back. My next stop is a chiropractor. I'll try to read your post when I have time. Just very busy right now.

Thanks

I'm curious, you say that you had problems with Doxacycline. What happened?

My doc gave me this for spastic colon/rectum, and I've been feeling pretty funky.

For me, doxycycline gave me intense stomach problems. I found that I had to take the doxy, only, with food.
