I have posted a few times on this forum regarding my belief that chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome is primarily a pelvic muscle tension disorder. However, an interesting phenomenon took place about 1-2 weeks ago regarding my observation that the immune system may be at work in CPPS. About 1-2 weeks ago I felt as if I was coming down with a cold or a bad sinus infection and was starting to get sick. Prior to actually getting sick I observed the following:
My penis and pelvic floor became very relaxed. My penis hung down much more in the flaccid state and I was able to make love to my wife wonderfully without my usual dose of Cialis. I would look at my wife or just hug her and get a moderate size erection. None of this occurred before I felt as if I was getting sick. This past Saturday, Sunday and Monday I was actually sick - running eyes, runny nose, headache, etc. During those days my symptoms of chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome were hardly noticeable. On Tuesday I stayed home from work but did not have the running nose/eyes. I started to feel better by the end of the day and then guess what happened??? All of my chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome symptoms returned - burning, shortened painful penis, pelvic floor tightened up. Even when I tried to relaxed the pelvic floor it was very difficult to relax it. Erections are non-existent now and my week of joyful bliss has turned into disappointment and wondering if chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome is from tension or primarily an immune system disorder. Has anyone else ever experienced a change of chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome symptoms right before/during a cold, illness, etc?

This phenomenon has been reported many times over the years, mostly in the old newsgroup though. I think that when you get ill with a febrile illness, your entire nervous and immune systems are diverted for a while, so it's very difficult to decide on the true significance of this.
Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.

Sounds quite possible that when you get sick, your nervous system goes into a more relaxed state and it is not so alert. Similar to being tired I would imagine.
It has been so long since I have been sick, so I don`t remember if that made any changes in my pelvic pain. Ever since I quit smoking over a year ago, I have not been sick at all.
At least my immune system is working perfect huh

I'm not a hundred percent sure it was related or not. But when I was sick with mono a couple months back I had no prostatitis symptoms at all. I figured it was just because of the extra rest I had to do as a result of being so tired. But soon as my blood work showed I was resolving mono, my prostatitis symptoms returned. Again not sure it is related, but it sure sounds like we had similar experiences.

Re: Response
I just came across your post and I can relate to what you are saying. A few weeks ago, the last week of February to be precise, I came down with a viral infection. While I was sick, about 7 days or so, my symptoms were gone. Granted I was sick as a dog and was very preoccupied by that fact, but I really do not remember having symptoms that week. Now my doctor had put me on Zythromax, so maybe the antiflamatory action of the antibiotic did it.carter1 wrote:Lukesky:

I have noticed that my sexual symptoms also subsided during a recent cold. I was seeing a PT at that time so I dont know if that helped or not. The last time that I had a cold I did not see any improvement in my sexual symptoms (and I have not been seeing the PT.) I dont know if any of this proves anything but I do know that its a strange phenomena! :)
