Actually, that's not as implausible as you may suppose.
I'm continually amazed at how much women with IC talk about the effect of diet on their condition, yet the men largely discount it (apart from the old caffeine, spices, alcohol stuff). In my case, diet is pivotal in maintaining my health, but maybe that's something idiosynchratic to me. It took me years (and an exclusion diet) to work out what parts of my diet were aggravating the condition, BTW.

To paraphrase H.P. Lovecraft, "In stranger eons..."
Oddly, although it was meant mostly tongue in cheek, the idea of this sort of publication has supported many organizations from the questionable to the honourable.
If the ideas presented within were at least based on plausible hypothesis, some documented science and a fair amount of anecdotal experience I wouldn't be adverse to the idea. If it takes a book to generate revenue for the foundation, so be it. It's also a form of placing information in the public view.
I've read up somewhat on the food allergy concept, and while I can't say I see it in myself, your point of taking years to realize such a thing is well taken.
Besides the usual dietary restrictions, I believe a high fat diet makes my condition much worse. A high fiber diet, I think, is VERY important to avoid discomfort (for me). Foods which are easily digested seem to enhance my overall feeling of well being. In plain english, the correct diet is probably the number one way for me to stay healthy. When my wife and I go out to eat often, I deteriorate. Hard to avoid fat when you go to resturants.

You are referring, I think, to the fact that hard and bulky stool can, for some men, increase discomfort though a purely mechanical action. This is not quite the same as the thrust of my point about food allergy, intolerance, sensitivity and delayed sensitivity reactions, but it is nonetheless a very valid point.

Partially. Constipation certainly can cause more discomfort in an already painful pelvis. I actually think a fatty diet makes me worse. Maybe this has something to do with the inflammation pathway and fatty acids. Just a thought. A high fat diet can make other inflammatory conditions worse. I do "buy into" your suspicion that a lot of this is related an allergic cascade of events.
