Burning after urination

Post by Aussie George »

Hello,

I would like some advice from members. I have burning after urination. There is some relief from during urination, but as soon as I finish the burning stays with me. I am now at the 6 months mark and have been on doxy and Cipro despite being culture negative. Can anyone tell me what I can do to get some relief from this.

Many thanks in advance

George

I assume you have ruled out all medical causes for your painful urination and have no answers or you wouldn't be posting here. If so, then I would start to look at the possibility of muscle tension. Chronic muscle tension can produce your symptom and many more as you no doubt realize from reading the posts on these boards. Many of us have symptoms like yours from trigger points and pelvic muscles that are constricting things that shouldn't be constricted. Perhaps the first thing you should do is to do a self-evaluation of your symptoms and try to see if you have any evidence of chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome from muscle-tension. Things to assess are:
1) How much stress/anxiety you have
2) Have you ever had stress/anxiety related conditions before (IBS or Panic Attacks or Nervous Stomach)
3) Do you have muscle pain anywhere else that you can't explain (back pain or neck pain or abdominal pain)
4) Does a hot bath make your burning go away
5) Do muscle relaxants help?
6) This next one was hard before I started phsyical therapy, but try to assess whether you have any trigger point pain in the abdominals, groin, buttocks, lower back, perineum, or interally in the rectum (this is the hard one to determine without help)

The above list of items is not complete, but if you have a few "yes" answers, perhaps chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome is where your problems lie and in that case, there are answers here to help you.

I've had the same urethral burning for 3 mos, so ur not the only one with this struggle. At least we know we're not alone. All my tests have been normal. I have found that Xanax will numb the pain, and those over the counter urinary tablets that turn your urine orange will also, although only for a few hours max. I've been on zithromax and amoxicillin and still have the same problem. I've started on Paxil for the stress and depressing resulting from the chronic pain, although it doesn't prevent the symptoms much, just helps you mentally deal with it. I'm hoping this is something that doesn't last a long time for me, I'm hoping it will die down in a few months, otherwise I dunno what I'm going to do! Some days are better and some are worse, so hang in there!

a lot, I work 2 jobs and am always stressing over something.

2) Have you ever had stress/anxiety related conditions before (IBS or Panic Attacks or Nervous Stomach)

I have stomach problems sometimes, but I take anti-depressants and axiety medicine for my depression/axiety issues.

3) Do you have muscle pain anywhere else that you can't explain (back pain or neck pain or abdominal pain)

just in the pelvic area.

4) Does a hot bath make your burning go away

i dont know, I only take showers...but maybe ill give it a shot.

5) Do muscle relaxants help?

i don't have access to those.

6) This next one was hard before I started phsyical therapy, but try to assess whether you have any trigger point pain in the abdominals, groin, buttocks, lower back, perineum, or interally in the rectum (this is the hard one to determine without help)
does chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome sound right for my answers?
