Flexeril
Some information and a question.
I had been having a nasty flare for the last week, today I stayed home from work and took 5mg of Flexeril my friend had for back spasms, and then slept for about an hour and a half or so. Since I woke up I am back to almost 80% again. Only minor pain and frequency...not sure if it will last but definitely made a bad flare disappear for a while. It has been 7 hours since I woke up, only had to pee 3 times since then, it had been an urge every 20 minutes or less for the last few days.
My question is on WebMD it lists this drug with valium in some places. Is this habit forming? I don't plan on taking it regularly but it is nice to know there is something that will help get out out of the pain frequency cycle. Thanks to anyone who can answer this...

I don't believe it is habit forming, but don't take it for more than a few weeks tops.

Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.

How often and how long did you take it?
I'm back at work today and things are getting bad again. I haven't had a period this long when things were this bad since this crap came on me. Burning despite taking Prelief and an irritating need to go pee every 30 minutes or less. Also a very tough pain right at the point my penis goes into my body. I guess there is a nerve there or something.
I started taking Buspar yesterday to hopefully help me with the anxiety stuff. Supposed to take 2-3 weeks to work but I'm hopeful this will help. I know anxiety is contributing to my problems.

No...I have a uro that I have been dealing with for 4 months now and the only test he has done is the initial urine test. I am restricted as to who I can see casue I'm retired military and stuck with their pathetic medical care.
I have been browsing the IC Network forum for some ideas...I don't have any testicular pain and never have and never had any pain after ejacuation, most of my tourble is frequency/urgency and pain in the prostrate/bladder area.
Was going to try Elmiron but doubt if my uro would even know what it is. I have been taking Chon/Glucos for about 40 days.

I would like to continue to use it as I bleieve it helped a bit but it also causes urinary retention, which I believe is a huge part of my problem. This nasty flare started after about 10 days on detrol, which also causes urinary retention.
Even with the Cardura, 4mg now, I have a hard time peeing most of the time. That should not happen from what I undeerstand. I am going to switch to Flomax today if I can get my damn Uro to call me back. I know Cardura is supposed to be better but the side effcts (headache, depression, water retention, insomnia etc) are way beyond it's worth to me now. I'm sure the Flomax will casue the retro but right now I just need to get over this hump and try to get my mind back in some kind of shape.
Thanks for the responses...

I have been taking flexeril for a few months now and it seems to help with flares. I only take it when the pain gets the worse and I can not take the pain any more. I take 10 mg and the only side effect I have and is common with the pill is drowsiness and some times it knocks me out. Have others had the problem with drowsiness?
My other question is I know valium is used a lot with this condition I am worried to try it because of the addictive nature of it is this a problem for most people or a few? Does flexeril have the same help measures as valium does and if so can flexeril be used as a valium alternative what do people think that have used valium of flexeril or both?

Busbar, etc
Treynor:
The Busbar is effective but long term, it was like I was in a fog most of the time. It made it difficult for me to think clearly. It is effective for "getting you over the hump". You also get these crazy brain flashes like lightening strikes. Those I did not like.
I used Xanax on and off sometimes for anxiety high points. It offers less effect as time goes on, (you need to take more for the same effect) but offered much relief for me.
I also used Remeron for sleep. If you are not sleeping, this is critical.
Flomax (very expensive) definitely helped with the urinary issues but the retro was funky for me.
All were quite effective.
Sorry I cannot reply on the flexoral as I never tried it.
Make sure you are using the Theracane to get those spots worked out. Also try some stretches if snow shoveling is disturbing those sensitive muscles. You need to loosen the tight inards up. This is a long term thing.
Not a Dr. not medical advice.

I haven't taken any buspar for a long time. It just wasn't doing anything but screwing up my sleep. I decided over time that none of the anti-depressants are for me. Too many side effects. The only one I could ever tolerate was Serzone. And they took it off the market.
I haven't taken any Flexeril for a long time either, although I think there are times is could be helpful for us with this stuff. Remeron was too instense for me, after 2 days of not being able to sleep, sleeping for 12 hours, reastless leg syndrome and eating a dozen donuts every 4 hours, I had to quit
Your right about the Xanax....it is a circle...it may help very short term, like 2 days but take it any longer and you will need more or pay for those 2 days you took it. I did get a small amount of Ativan the other day but haven't taken any. Between my expereince with the Ultram, which I think is just an awful wicked drug and the Xanax....I am not going to take it more than once a week.
I am just going to go the 2-3 times a day relaxation sessions and also am seeing a physicologist....I think it will help me get my mind right and in the long run help with all the pain, negative thinking and sleep. I saw my Phsyc yesterday and enjoyed my time with him. Glad I connected with him first time...I didn't want to have to go looking around for another one. He gave me some good ideas and encouragement on the relaxation sessions. I think those are a huge thing for us and maybe as important a thing anyone even without this crap can do to make their lives better......
For right now, I don't have a Theracane. I need to find a PT to work on me but I want to get myself calmed down mentally first so it will be effective. Stretching, other than the yoga stretch, makes things worse for me....particularly the squat stretches....maybe once I get to a PT they can tell me why and also whether to do them anyway or not.

i have the exact same symptoms as you.....if I'm having a rough time, it's either not being able to pee properly or having to 4 times an hour, though I haven't had that sensation in months, thankfully. I've wondering if maybe I have IC as well....perhaps mildly. I asked my uro about it and he said that many people might have it and have no idea, since it's still not very well understood and even the name they're giving it could be incorrect. I find what works best is drinking massive amounts of fluid, staying in and sitting down to pee since it seems to relax the muscles better.treynor33 wrote:No...I have a uro that I have been dealing with for 4 months now and the only test he has done is the initial urine test. Sometimes though I also have burning in my bladder....but I'm not sure if it's actually my bladder that's in pain.....or the muslces/nerves on the outside of the pubic bone.
Age:23 | Onset Age:22 | Symptoms:Urinary hesitancy, moderate frequency, urgency and retention, slight perinneum, rectal and leg pain, frequent abdominal/bladder pain. Red/white spotty irritation on penis | Helped By:hot baths or showers, walking and moving around, pain medications | Worsened By: sitting for a long time, holding urine too long. I'd say I'm about 75% better naturally so far.

If stretching makes things worse its likely working. The reason I know the squat stretching hits the spot was because it flared me up.

How long did it bother you? After doing them for a while did it stop? I am open to doing them but just want to make sure it is helping....I'm Ok with some pain for a while if in the long run it is helping...
