advice appreciated
I guess I have had chronic bacterial prostatitis for around two years, started with low grade fever and pain troublet urinating, went to doctor had std checks urine infection nothing showed up.
Was given ciprofloxin which I took an alergic reaction to.
Symtoms died down after a while, but never really went away, waiting to pee, poor erection quality.
Got bad went to doc said I had prostatitis....said I had to live with it...died down after taking augmentin.
Had unprotected sex with girl, got NGU, she came back clean, destroyed relationship with a nice girl.
Recently I have got really bad went to Urologist who said I had Chronic BP, peeing a lot, etc etc prescribed Levaquin 21 days, soon as I finished got bad again. Prescribed Doxycycline for a month with Flomax, didn't help. Now on bacterim seems to help, not peeing as much, still have to wait to pee 95% of the time, scared when I finish bactrim I will just get bad again as with the Levaquin.
Last week I noticed if I drink cranberry juice it is bad for my symtoms, only drinking water now and nothing else doc says carbonated drinks are not good.s
If I don't get good after I was considering going to the Arizona clinic i.e. massage and antibiotics, then I read the articles on this site and I'm not to sure? massage/protocols. Advice from people (cured?) of Chronic bacterial prostatitis, would be appreciated.
What do you recommend taking when on such long spells of antibiotics, which I know could not be good for.
Does anyone take antacids like prevacid? does it help much?
I am only 25 so want to knock this in the head, I woould give my left hand to be cured.[/b]

Hmmm. Another one who claims to have chronic BACTERIAL prostatitis but cannot show any positive cultures.
I think that before you go to any clinic that supposedly cures men of prostatitis, do a lot of reading here.

Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.

Thanks for your response darwin, I have stopped taking pop, coffee, most painful beer (Irish) for months but I was taking cranberry juice as my urologist told me it is was good to take, didn't mention that acid can be bad.
Unfortunatly I sit a lot, computer job. diarrea not really, pooed a lot while on doxyclcline. IBS don't know what this is.

A while-you-wait microscopic examination of a swab will show WBCs but is not sufficient for a diagnosis of bacterial prostatitis. WBCs in themselves do not indicate infection.

Changes in diet will help gradually, not right away. Heavy drinking can definately cause erectile problems and bladder/prostate problems.
IBS is Irritable bowel syndrome, which is a pretty common precurser to CPP. Basically means you have problems staying regular. Either with constipation or loose stool.
I recommend you get a very good cushion for sitting on at work. Cut the middle out to take presure off the cocyx/prostate region.
More importantly, learn to relax. Take deep breaths, hot baths, avoid stress. Occupy your mind with other pleasant hobbies/activities that are active in nature and keep you off your ass.
I would consider stopping all antibiotics. If they have not worked yet, they probably won't.
As for "waiting to pee", try not to focus on peeing when your at the toilet. Read the fixtures, trace the tiles, or just sit down on the toilet and relax. I will venture a guess that you have stage fright issues in public?

thanks for the advice
Are you all of the impression that chronic bacterial prostatitis is non existant? because for the most part everyone has bacteria in the prostate.
Does anyone know a - Pelvic Myofascial release / Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol therapist in pittsburgh - I am open to anything. I thathsink even if my prostate symtoms are caused by bacteria, I am still going to need this done due to the damage from my syptoms
Does anyone know a urologist with an open mind in Pittsburgh...mine is,here is a drug, still bad, next drug
Also I have tried acupunture which seems to relieve my symtoms for a while, but not when I first started, took a while.
What do other people drink...the only thing I am drinking is water and would like another option?
I am relaxing doing yoga, hot baths already
what vegetables/fruit is it safe to eat? most contain acid yes?
I could ask questions all day and night, this passed few months have been the toughest of my life and I just want to get to the bottom of it all. I would not wish this on my worst enemy (if I had 1)

Arizona
Instead of going to Arizona (Tucson) for the "cure", save yourself some time and trouble and just go withdraw thousands of dollars from your bank account and flush it down the toilet.
Do not listen to anybody promising "cures". In the old days I would have responded with a profanity-riddled tirade, but 4 years of CP will mellow a man out and teach him to only get worked up about things that matter. The clinic in Tucson is not one of those things. Don't waste your time.

I agree with a previous post. If you have bacterial prostatitis, then what did the urin e culture show? Which bacteria? The right antibiotic should be prescribed to treat the specific bacteria. If not, a cystoscopy or videourodynamics test isn't out of the question. Perhaps you have a bladder/urethral issue. Good luck.

Rhemium, I assume you have you been to Tuscon to try the treatment?
I am willing to try anything? I as yet don't even no if I have been properly diagnosed, from all the stuff I have read and been told so far I don't know, at least it seems as if they do the proper tests or do they? I don't know, if I have to go somewhere to get properly diagnosed instead of a Urologist who says I have bacteria, but his words its impossible to tell what sort it is.
I assume he doesn't have the correct lab tests or something ...
My antibiotics bactrim are currently helping calm my symtoms, if I finish my medication and I am as bad as I was, while eating only certain things and only drinking water, and not able to get it up I will find it very hard to find any reason for being on this planet.
what are theses 2 procedures
cystoscopy or videourodynamics
when I first got bad 2 years ago I had the procedure where they take a look at your bladder, (my prostate looked fine) sticking the tube up the penis, can't believe I forget the name, but guess I tried to forget the whole experience...not very pleasant as I'm sure some of you know.
There appears to be no myofascial therapists in pittsburgh who do the appropriate release....I have emailed them all.
If I went to Stanford is there a good chance I would get properly diagnosed?

Suffering in PA
I too am from PA and have been suffering with CP for the better part of a year. I'm 31 and live 2 hours north of Pittsburgh.
I have been taking Prelief to try and help with the acidic diet (don't know if it actually helps.) I take the GCN Vitamin C500 w/ Quercetin in the morning and at night. I also take the GNC Saw Palmetto men's formula twice daily. I take a multi vitamin after dinner. I quit drinking any carbonated beverages and rarely drink alcohol. This combo of pills have seemed to help quite a bit. I also take Ibuprofen whenever I need.
I guess I have IBS-type episodes about every 2 weeks. It only lasts for one day and seems to be linked to mentally stressful events.
My real CP flare-ups came this past spring. I was urinating every couple of hours at work, (not as much at home and usually max. of once at night.) I was dribbling at the end and a couple of times even had after I 'thought' I had finished - found my underwear getting wet from the leakage. No one noticed, even though I had dribbled once enough to soak through to my pants - thank goodness, but I was livid at that point. I had to get help.
Additionally, at the same time, I was getting a different pain in my lower right abdomen which, long story short ends up that my Galbladder is only 80% functional. (I had a CT scan scheduled and asked them to also scan my pelvis area.) I was going to my family doctor and my uro and then went solely to the uro. He put me on some antibiotic (can't remember the name) and 500 mg of Ibuprofen 3-times daily for 2 weeks. It really didn't help. The strange thing is that the uro mumbled something about my bladder on my last visit and said that he'd check it if/when I had the galbladder removal surgery. (Did something show up on the CT scan that he is not telling me about?) I haven't confronted him about that and probably should. My family doctor also got the results, but never called me about them. I called them, but never heard back.
The nice thing is that I can blame the galbladder on my bad days. (although I still have them for it, too.) I had someone tell me that they had A LOT of bladder infections BEFORE they had their galbladder out and after hasn't had one since.
I have found that the stretch-behind your back does help somewhat when I have bladder or prostate pain/discomfort. Thinking back, I was doing that long before I knew why and how it was helping me.
Stress is beyond my control right now with work, rebuilding a house, life in general, etc. I believe in my case that stress is probably the biggest contributor to my symptoms, so I'm trying to get to the point where I can relax as much as possible and not let things bother me - as much as I can help.
I also believe my problem is mostly psychological and am trying to cope as best as possible. I definitely have the tense pelvic floor bit and find that contiously trying to relax it has helped, too.
I want to thank the various posters on this site for helping me through a very difficult and challenging period of my life. I am not "cured", but have been able to cope and am finding some relief. Without your advice, I don't know what/how I would have made it through.

Hey Guest,
I to am looking for a physical therapist in Pennsylvania would like to find one in and around Pittsburgh but anywhere would be great live four hours from philly so not so good there. You said you can not find a pt that does myofasical trigger point therapy in Pittsburgh and you have emailed them all who have you emailed? Have you tried magee womans hospital though I might try there my self if you find one please let me know on this forum?
Hey guest suffering in PA
What are some more of your symtoms? You said you live two hours from pittsburgh that is cool so do i? Do not think this problem is all in your head and do not let a doctor tell you this.
ON a side note I seen the pelvic floor center at west penn hospital and they did test like external anal sphincter electromyography, trananal ultrasound, anal manometry, pudental nerve motor latency test me pd nerve was normal. They said I have muscle spasm in the pelvic floor need to relax it I already knew that going in was going to see what kind of therapy they could offer and they did not offer any help or any way to get it better
it was like find a way on your own to get better that was why I was going there
Any ways it is great to see people from the KEYSTONE STATE on here may be we can find ways to get each other better in our state.
