Re: sphincter pain

Post by garyholc »

I had this for about 2 weeks and was sore when sitting down, but it has finally gone now, I found that stretching the opening in 12, 3, 6 and 9 o'clock positions and holding that stretch for a while has helped, plus opening the pelvic floor by squatting against a wall for a few minutes has also I believe helped. I did my stretching of this while in a hot bath when the muscles are most relaxed.

Great vacation now frequency back

Post by calguy »

Well guys I had a great weekend with my girlfriend snowboarding but just like I was afraid of I feel like I set myself back in my recovery. My frequency over the last few days is 2 to 3x a night like when it was at its worst. I was feeling almost back to normal before trip and was really apprehensive about going but really needed a break. I may have over did it on the sex which may be contributing to the problem too but I feel I just pushed my body too hard with everything including long drive. I was feeling really confident over the last month and was going to post my success but now I'm feeling like I have to start over. I called my PT and she is going to get me in tomorrow so hopefully she can help calm things down. Anyway, when I was standing up on that mountain I felt so good, 8 months ago I never would have imagined doing that again. Will keep you posted I guess just a little down about going from such a high to such a low.
Age 32, onset 32 Onset Aug 07- frequency was main problem in the beginning-really bad. Now 1 to 2x per night when frequency flairs up. Sore and tight lower abdominal muscles. Occasional burning after bowel movement and full feeling. What helps: Healthy diet(this is huge for me) Started drinking super greens supplament and almost going totally vegetarian to get body more alkaline, starting Prosta-Q, quercetin/zinc tablet in morning helped frequency problem I believe. Massaging abs and doing stretches helps calm down frequency when it is acting up. Wine or vodka after long day. Flexeral and melatonin at night. Swimming and light weights. .5 of Elavil every other day helps with frequency and healing process. Trying to stay positive and not stressing over this!

This is what you have to remind your self of when you have a set back. This is all part of recovery...You know exactly what you have done and what you need to do to get back on track. You just overworked your pelvis that's all. In a way, that's empowering to know that you can step right back into your protocol.

Cheers....

Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.

Hi Calguy, I guess its all part of the rollercoaster. If its any help, my frequency problem fluctuated a lot over the last year. It would go for a month or two, then come back out of the blue, then go away again. Its 90% gone now, and has stayed that way since December. What I found was each time the frequency came back, it didn't last as long, and the time between it coming back gradually got longer. Hopefully it has gone for good this time, and hopefully for you too, given time, it will also go.

I guess you felt great when you were on vacation, and perhaps now back home, back to work etc. your mood is feeling a little lower, and the symptoms are kicking back in again, especially after all that activity. There are quite a few posts on here from people who went on vacation and their symptoms went, only to return again when they got back home. I guess with regards your body, its a case of taking things easy and in moderation for a while, not forever, but we need to give our body time to recover from this and for it to heal.

However, you could also look at it this way.... you have done a lot of walking, snowboarding, sex, driving etc. which has exercised the muscles considerably during your vacation. No doubt symptoms will return now that you are not as active as you were on your vacation, and perhaps this is a sign that you have worked the muscles (not so much a bad thing) and who knows, in a few days, maybe everything will calm back down. In other words, you may have done some good getting some exercise into them, and you are just having symptoms now as a result of this activity. I had the same in New York, ached like mad after I came back for about four days even though prior to going I felt back to normal, then it calmed down again.

The PT I had last week, I had no pain 2 days after it, then bad pain for 3 days after that, now for the past 3 days I have had nothing whatsoever, no pain, nothing, feel normal. Again, this may be due to the work being done on the muscles, which returned my symptoms, but which has now calmed back down again.

Thanks guys, I needed that pep talk even though I keep telling myself that. I was thinking it may be good to push the muscles again Gary but also concerned i causing them to flair up doesnt give them enough time to heal correctly? Too late to worry about that now will just get back to protocal and see how long it takes to get myself back too feeling good. Thanks again guys!

Diet changes can have a positive impact on CP/CPPS recovery for sure. I can attest to that. I have a long way to go in terms of sticking with a diet that is healthy. Since my recovery has been stable...I started drinking coffee since Christmas 2007 and drinking red wine and having chocolate again and no increase in symptoms that I'm aware of. Problem is...I have to be careful and really should still be avoiding these things, but life is to be lived and not endured....

I've always wondered if acid may play a part in my problems. If you are prone to getting "heart burn" as I am, is it possible I could use more alkaline? If I eat a lot of pizza a drank a lot of beer I get a horrible case of heart burn. Fire in the chest, painful burps, etc.

I had terrible acid reflux before this set in. Even now I can't eat a lot of greasy foods or I will get heart burn. I think stress can also cause things like heart burn and IBS, ust my opinion. I havent been totally committed to diet but I may try just to see if it would work. The book PH Miracle or alkaline or die wil get you started. Its tuff I can attest to that! My mother has been fighting breast cancer for years with that diet and the doctors are amazed. They said she shoud have been dead a long time ago. If it can fight cancer I'm sure it can help other problems.

For GERD, hiatus hernia, heartburn, or acid reflux I recommend raising the head of the bed 6" (150mm) with bricks or blocks of wood. Also insert some support halfway down the bed to prevent bowing.

If you want to get rid of GERD take two table spoons of Organic Apple Cider Vinegar. One in the morning and one in the evening. Also take fish oil. I did this for a week and a half and got rid of my GERD back in 2006. Of course, also stop eating crappy food and cut out all sodas, diet or otherwise and exercise.

I guess its a case of doing moderate exercise, rather than having a huge blast all in one go. Moderate walking, exercise, sex etc... can do nothing but help stretch the muscles. I know the reason I had pain in NY was because I was walking from 8am until 2am all over the city, something I wouldnt normally do and a tad excessive!

Trying self internal work

Post by calguy »

Found a tool to try my own internal work but I feel like I am just poking around in there with no really idea of what I am hitting. I can feel when I hit prostate of course because I can feel pressure in my urethra and no other feeling like it. DO I have to recreate a symptom or do I just massage all over to loosen things up? When my PT does internal work she will say "there it is, that where your all tight" and work that area to relax the area. I obviously cannot feel anything with tool.

I struggle to find my own trigger points but know they are there as my PT recreates all my pain when he hits them.

Does your PT find any trigger points that recreate your pain or just say you're tight ?
Age:33 | Onset Age:19 | Symptoms:burning urethra, deep sore stinging around the perineum, dribbling | Helped By:when flare starts deep relaxing over a toilet to let out dribbling urine, hot bath, rubbing a heat cream on the perineum, Tens with a pad on the perineum, running, medication (solpadol) for pain. Current treatment: PT. | Worsened By:sitting, stressing over it, ejaculation, sometimes alcohol but I risk it. Been feeling a lot better last 6 months about 85% with a few flares lasting about 5 days. No longer having PT. Stretching every other night and I believe time is also a big factor for me

Hey calguy - I have good news for you. My symptoms were pain in the tip of the penis and pain in the perineum. I went to Dr. Wise's clinic and had those trigger points worked on while there. That was back in August. Since then I have greatly reduced this pain, but I've never been able to re-create the treatment that Dr. Wise's therapist, Tim Sawyer, did. In fact, as far as generating pain in the tip of the penis via the internal trigger points I think I've accomplished that only a couple of times in the last 7 months. I think the key is to get those muscles stretched out first and foremost. Apply pressure to those muscles (in my case it was the levator ani muscles on the sides of the prostate), a good 60-90 seconds. I wouldn't worry so much about re-creating the symptom. Also, the relaxation will aid you in relaxing those muscles, too. Not sure what your symptoms are, but also check the muscles right below the prostate. Over time, those have become more of a problem for me. At least those are easy to reach. Patience is GOLDEN with this treatment!
