Given that Algonot Plus and ProstaProtek are supposed to function similarly to Elmiron, and Elmiron's benefit is placebo in nature, would it logically follow that the same could be true for Algonot?

ProstaProtek is comprised of natural chemicals and chemicals found in the body - not a synthetic chemical like PPS (Elmiron). ProstaProtek has other ingredients that are very desirable (quercetin, chrondroitin). It must be kept in mind that Elmiron's chemical, pentosan polysulfate sodium, is a synthetic chemical and cannot be directly compared to the natural ingredients in ProstaProtek.

I've been taking ProstaPrtotek for just under two months now, so it's a little early to say...but it seems like I may be experiencing some improvement. Hopefully it isn't in my head. Of course the other ingredients such as quercetin do make for a different formulation than Elmiron so perhaps one should not read too much into an as yet unreleased study.

We'll see how things are going with the ProstaProtek after another 3 to 4 months.

Intersting note here. I called my Uro today to schedule an appointment with him. We talked about Elmiron which is not available here. He said that they dont use it in Sweden cause it lacked a proven trackrecord.

Webslave, which treatment seems to be the "best" for IC? Any idea?

DMSO? . Heparin?

Until we know better, I think pelvic trigger point massage, paradoxical relaxation, CystaProtek/ProstaProtek, Quercetin, Ester C, Prelief, antihistamines and my general protocol are the best approaches.

Dr Theoharides comments (private email communication):
Algonot/Cysto/Prostaprotek have (a) natural ingredients, (b) provide precursors (glucosamine-S) for new GAGs, (b) provide "ready made" GAG components (chondroitin-S and sodium hyaluroinate), (c) have the antiinflammaory quercetin, and (d) have the kernel olive extract that helps mucosal healing.
