A thought crossed my mind today and I went back through my medical records. Back when I was first diagnosed with chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome (08/2009), I had my blood tested three times over the next six months. None of the blood tests revealed anything abnormal EXCEPT for a high eosinophil % (anywhere from 5% to 11%, where the reference range is 0-4%). My question is whether this high level of eosinophils could be linked to inflammation. I've been thinking about giving Singulair a shot, but would love to hear your thoughts on this. I realize it couldn't hurt to try Singulair out, so my question is more about the relationship (if one exists) between eosinophil % and chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome and/or Singulair.
THANKS!

Re: Singulair and Eosinophil Count?
Eosinophils are WBCs. They go up during acute stress, infections, allergic reactions, and few other things, notably leukemia. Certain medicines may cause you to have an increase in eosinophils (amphetamines, laxatives containing psyllium, some antibiotics, interferon, tranquilizers).
I think it has little significance in your case and I'd ignore it.

Re: Singulair and Eosinophil Count?
Hmm, okay. The original infection I had, followed by five weeks worth of antibiotics, could be responsible for this. Thanks -- this is helpful.
