I have read about the kneeling chairs here and in other places, but it seems they are not so good for sitting during long periods. Anybody have any experience with this?
Maybe there is a high quality kneeling chair that can be used for many hours at a time comfortably? This one looks pretty good

Ya some of these kneeling chair designers claim things like these chairs... .
promote constant natural movement, keeping the back and abdominal muscles active at all times. While sitting, the user is actually strengthening the core muscles of the abdomen and back while preventing tension in the neck and shoulders. This "active sitting" improves circulation and oxygen levels, boosting energy, concentration, and overall well-being.
Sounds to me like an excuse to cover up discomfort issues that may arise with these devices... . .
Also do chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome patients want to be keeping our back and abdominal muscles "active all the time"... ... . Hmm

I've seen mixed reports about kneel chairs. The Hag Balans is very expensive ($350-400). I'd try a cheaper one if I were you, at least initially.

I purchased a cheap one (< $100) and actually have gotten to enjoy it. It is definitely not a long term solution. Initially, I could only sit in it for 2-3 hours. After a couple of months, I find myself sitting in it for a full work day. However, it does wreak havoc on your shins and knees, especially if you go cheap. There are mixed reviews out there.
Just having an alternative is sometimes the perfect solution.

It does seem to put less pressure on perineal area, but can start to hurt knees and shins after prolonged sitting.
I'll post an update probably in a few weeks to let you all know my concerns and experience with it.

It is a good chair, and usually I can sit for at least an hour before I really need to get up, however I rarely use it considering I need a fairly high desk to actually use it properly for studying etc. If you buy one I recommend that you make sure you have a desk of the correct height to use it with. The adjustability on the chair does not allow for significant changes to chair height, it is more used to control the seat angle.
