Has anyone used ice packs or ice bags to treat CPPS? If i get really bad I sit on an ice bag for a few hours and feel terrific but dont know if this helps me long run, I guess I have to give it a try. Problem is my testicles get frozen too !

Ice packs were a problem for me...It created more burn/pain in my perineum. My thought was, it flared the nerves further. But everyone is different. If it helps...great, but be careful not to leave it on for long.

Hi,

Ice packs sometimes help me as well. However, you should be careful to not sit on them for extended periods, as you don't want frostbite. Give it a rest every 10-15 minutes. Also, make sure that you wrap the pack in a thick cloth or several sheets of paper towels.

Before I knew what chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome was and before I was diagnosed with some form of Pelvic Dysfunction, an ice pack was my savior. I used it on my drive to Miami. Had a cooler full of ice and my trusty icepack. But once the ice is removed, the pain slowly comes back. Now that I know what I have, I stick to the Baclofen and the Elavil to get me through the tough days.

Ice packs saved me when I herniated a disk in my back lifting heavy furniture (note to all younger men reading this: as you get older, the disks in your spine become more brittle and can fracture if you bend while lifting!). When all else failed, a physiotherapist introduced me to ice packs on my spine and like a miracle, the pain and sciatica started fading.

Ice works by destroying the pro-inflammatory chemicals released by mast cells. Just like you change the protein in an egg when you cook it, so deep chilling some of the chemicals that are involved in inflammation and pain "reverse cooks" them into an inactive form.

But as Jay says, always wrap the ice source in a pillowcase or something, and never more than 10mins, then leave it off until the flesh has completely warmed again (this will take hours).

These Tensor cold ice packs are awesome...they have a soft cover so you don't have to worry about getting burnt from the cold.
