Hello all. I haven't posted on here in quite awhile, which is a good thing for me.
I want to say a big THANK YOU for anyone who has helped guide me whenever I have reached out on this forum. chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome is very scary, lonely and depressing, and as they say "misery loves company" and it's true. Just a word to you guys who are still having issues, you're not alone, many many many have gone down your path.
Also, if you haven't gotten to see Dr. Wise, go go go. Whatever it takes. I have a big whopping ugly balance on my credit card from my visit, but you know what? I don't regret a penny of it. It's worth every tiny, filthy worn down cent.
I went out there in the summer of 2007 (seems like yesterday, wow time flies).....I was having a terrible time. Pain in the perineum, pain in the tip, anus pain, you name it. It was constant. Just imagining traveling all that way (I'm in the Midwest) was terrifying.
What I learned from Dr. Wise and his team was invaluable. But it took time. Early on in my recovery I would wake up, do a 30 minute relaxation session and internal work. After I came home from my job I relaxed again for another 30 minutes. This went on and on for a good 6 or 7 months with only moderate success. During this time I called Dr. Wise and another patient whom Dr. Wise had referred me to for support. They encouraged me to continue my treatment (Dr. Wise's estimation was that it takes at least a year or 2 to really get a hang of it). After all of these relaxation session it just kind of clicked. I don't know how to explain it, but it was like I retrained my body and my nervous system on how to react to things. It's remarkable. I just don't get as stressed as I used to, I don't get as worried as I used to, I don't let things bother me the way I used to.
Once I was really rolling I cut back on the treatment. I just didn't need it everyday anymore. For a good part of 2008 I would only relax Monday - Friday for about 20 minutes a day. That's all I did, I only occasionally did the internal work, when needed.
It's like night and day from when I started. If my pain and discomfort was a 7 or 8 back in 2007 it now ranges between 0 to 3 tops. I do get some strange flareups occasionally where I'll need to stretch out a little and perhaps lay down for 20 minutes, but those clear up quickly and they rarely get me all riled up and anxious like before.
So to you guys who are in the early stages of Dr. Wise's treatment, don't give up, it will happen for you. There's something to the repeated relaxation that trains your body. It's relaxation training, really, and when your body and mind are relaxed your muscles naturally relax too. It just takes awhile for this to happen, but it will. You have to do the work though. But can you really call laying down and clearing your mind work?

Many thanks for taking the time to update us - superb news that you're doing so well
A lot of people still don't realise how important the relaxation element of beating this is. Physio by itself can only take you so far. I love reading success stories like yours which helps demonstrate the importance of calming the system down.
All the best to you in 2009 and don't forget to visit and update us again in 6-9 months.
Richard.
