PLEASE HELP; New severe urethra pain (first time in 7 years)

Post by kdow »

Hi everyone,

Thank you to all of you who have helped create and contribute to this site. It is having a profound affect on many peoples’ lives.

I had a weird/new experience for me recently. I was hoping somebody may be able to shed some light as to what is going on, and give me some possible treatment ideas. First I will explain my recent experience, and then I will provide a quick background on my condition.

So, I was going through life kind of managing my symptoms with stress control and keeping my pelvic muscles relaxed as much as possible. I would have flair-ups, but they would go down after a week or so. 100% of my pain was in my rectal area and down the back of my legs. I was feeling that I was close to being able to post a success story saying my Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol experience and self PT and stress control were the answer. Then about 4 months ago I basically woke up one day with a lot of pain in the tip of my penis (I have to walk slowly or wrap my penis in toilet paper to prevent an extremely painful chaffing pain). This pain spread into my urethra and the rest of my penis, and has not let up at all. The pain started about 1 month after starting to eat gluten again (I was off gluten for 5 months prior as a precaution before my wedding, I wasn’t sure if it did anything). This takes us to present. My dr. put me on Levaquin and Celebrex, which seems to only help 25% at best. Currently I just exist and have not really been able to live for the last 4 months.

Now, I feel really bad pain in my urethra all the time and it worsens after urinating, ejaculating, and eating most foods (still trying to figure out what I can eat). I think the foods that affect me most are fruits, vegetables, and anything with natural or fake sugar. Also, my Dr. said high potassium foods could be a bother. That so far seems true. I’m basically starving myself (eating mostly plain rice and some cheese, chicken, and beef) to see what works and what doesn’t, but I’ve had so little success because the pain is ultra sensitive.

My questions are:

Has anybody had a similar experience and think that gluten could be the problem?

I have taken no supplements and few drugs (other than the typical long rounds of antibiotics at the beginning with doctors that don’t know the condition). What Drugs and Supplements would be suggested for the urinary pain? Quercetin? Blockers?

Any diet suggestions?

Anything else I can do to help the pain?

And, anybody with a similar experience know when the symptoms may start to subside?
I know a lot of this has been written about, but I wanted to explain my specific case because it seems so odd that I would never have that symptom, and then have it show up in full force and be the worst symptom to date.

Quick background on my condition:
First symptoms started in 2001 with urinary discharge (like pieces of salt), but little or no pain.
Pain in testicles for 2 years, then moved to rectal area and legs. It has been this way until 4 months ago.
I went to Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol, saw a PT for a year, and have done self PT and relaxation with success.

Any insight and help would be much appreciated. Mentally this is tough because I feel like I can’t eat anything, and the pain never seems to really go down. It’s like having a flair-up for 4 months straight, with no break.

I plan to write a full story of my condition once I have something certain. But every time I seem to get close new things pop up and set back a success story. This set back happens to be extremely severe.

Thanks so much,
Kdow

To this day, I CANNOT eat gluten without eventually experiencing pelvic pain, even though I am otherwise completely free of pelvic pain. There are a handful of other men with an identical story.

While you are symptomatic, avoid spicey food, coffee, caffeine, tomatoes and acid food, sugary foods. You'll be able to eat all of them when you recover.

Webslave,

Thank you very much. I'm glad you confirmed my experience is consistent with other members of the forum. I will update as I learn more. I am back to being 100% gluten free and plan to be that way for a very long time.
All the best.
