My chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome began in late June, 2007 and after two months of pain and depression, I began to make progress which continued up until about two weeks ago.
My only physical symptom is a dull pain around my coccyx and it radiates deep into my rectum. The pain goes aways when I'm laying down, but is noticeable when I walk (although not to the extent when I'm sitting). My treatment regimen is as follows:
-Daily supplements including 2 grams of Omega 3's, 1.5 grams of Quercetin and 1.5 grams of magnesium.
-10mg of Flexeral twice daily
-Yoga class twice per week
-Daily stretching including: pidgeon, squat and those identified in Headache In The Pelvis
-Daily relaxation (deep breathing for 45 minutes) with mediation DVD); I'm trying to learn both Progressive and Autogenic relaxation but haven't mastered either at this point.
-External trigger points on my gluts with a tennis ball.
-Internal trigger point/massage-I haven't located a PT in Houston who is trained on internal trigger points, so I must perform this therapy myself. I located a tight muscle band next to the coccyx and work to release this point on each session, but to date I've been unsuccessful.
I achieved 75% improvement following the therapy above and on some days I felt almost syptom free. Then about two weeks ago my progress ceased and the past week I've seemed to regress.
I realize that for most suffers there will be periods of relapse and I may simply be going through one of these periods. Your thoughts and advice are desired.
Also if anyone knows of a good PT in Houston, please provide this information.

Sounds like you've got triggerpoints that you aren't reaching or treating. Need to find a local physio or try and see Tim from the Stanford clinic.

I would give you my standard advice about getting a wand and learning how to do the internal work yourself. That is the only thing that has worked for me. I am pain free but I still do the internal work on myself twice a week for about 30 to 45 minutes. The idea is to keep those pelvic muscles loose !
You say you are already doing the internal work on yourself, but I assume you are just using your finger ? In my opinion the wand works 10 times better than using your own finger due to leverage and reach capabilities. It is the same idea as using a Theracane on other parts of your body, but obviously it is just in the buttocks (unfortunately no other way to access those muscles, but between the wand and the pain I will take the wand anyday).
Take Care,

Age: 41 | Onset Age: 24 | Symptoms: You name it, I had it. | Helped By: Wand, Theracane, Cognitive Enquiry (Byron Katie) Stretches, The right kind of excercise | Worsened By: Stress, The wrong kind of excercise,
I've been seeing a PT that has helped and my symptoms have reduced.
Not totally gone but I feel "kinda" normal again as I've had the best 5-6 days without post ejac flare. I was warned not to buy a wand and do self massage as this could form new TPs...
I have a wand on the way since my health insurance will only cover X amount of visits...

Age:37 | Onset Age: 35 | Symptoms: pain in testicles that comes and goes that also switches sides-trying to find a pattern as to "why" this happens/Rectal Burn at the 6 O'clock position at my anus which tends to flare around the periphery of my anus typically after defication but no perineum pain-no "golf ball" pain. Pain in testicles worsens as I sit but not always...Pain is not always present but depresses me. Pain used to be at a very high level but has subsided in time to a low level but has not gone away. Pain used to flare after sex but not as much as before although it still like playing russian roulette./

NoMoPain: What wand do you recommend, can you post some link(s) on where to get them?
Thanks

I for sure found some problems up there using the wand nomopain advises. I am glad I did, makes me feel like I discovered something. When the new year hits I am getting a doctor up there, probably a colonoscopy. I feel like there is some irregularities. I do internal TP work but probably could be doing a better job. I always feel more relaxed after. My worst TP I believe is about 7 inches in. Since I always feel more relaxed after, I couldnt imagine cause more TP's.
