I think I'll try the squatting, has anyone else had relief from using this technique? What about side effects? Just curious....

Pain After PT
How common is pain after PT? I was pretty much back to normal yesterday, back to 90-95%. No pain, urinary symptoms improved, and I was in a great mood, even debated whether or not to go to PT. In fact it seemed the last treatment had helped the symptoms, so we decided to do it again. However, the last PT session wasn't as intense.
So I go in for PT, and a lot was done, after PT, I felt a little discomfort. Which was nothing bad. When i woke up in the morning, the pain in the right tip of my penis has returned. It is a throbbing feeling. I am wondering if maybe I should give up PT for a while until this new flare breaks, and just concentrate on my breathing and relaxation, seems like i never had this throbbing pain until they went probing in my rectum. Sometimes I think the PT makes things worse, I'm not quite convinced yet, as i have had two flairs after a PT session. I think the relaxation is more effective a tool, not sure though.
Everytime the pain comes on, I'm afraid that it won't leave, like i am now. I'm also trying not to get locked into the tension anxiety pain cycle, but its coming. Ill try to continue to relax.
My main question is why the pain would come now after they are trying to get rid of it? Is it because the stretched the tissue, hence, it needs to heal therefore it is swollen and affecting the nerves? The last flair took almost ten days to go away completely. The pain does feel like its throbbing, which seems to me to indicate swelling (like when you bruise your leg and it throbs for a few days). Let me know if you guys tihnk I'm right....
Sorry for the bad news... :x

Re: Pain After PT
This is my problem too, but if pain can be felt during PT, then trigger points are still there.
I flare for a week sometimes after PT, but only go once a month. I think eventually you don't flare

Age:33 | Onset Age:19 | Symptoms:burning urethra, deep sore stinging around the perineum, dribbling | Helped By:when flare starts deep relaxing over a toilet to let out dribbling urine, hot bath, rubbing a heat cream on the perineum, Tens with a pad on the perineum, running, medication (solpadol) for pain. Current treatment: PT. | Worsened By:sitting, stressing over it, ejaculation, sometimes alcohol but I risk it. Been feeling a lot better last 6 months about 85% with a few flares lasting about 5 days. No longer having PT. Stretching every other night and I believe time is also a big factor for me

Sometimes PT can take you a few steps back before you can move to the next level of progress. Try not to let the thoughts on this carry you away from the task at hand here.

I encourage anxiety prone UCPPS people to consider L-Theanine
Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.

Re: Pain After PT
When I had PT done I felt 100 % for two days, really. But after these days I did have some bad flare ups
These have gone now and generally I am not too bad, this didn’t surprise me to much when it happened, I know from treating myself for some time that the symptoms can be aggravated from doing PT. I am set for another PT session on April the 8th so hopefully I will be getting 1 step closer to nipping this thing in the bud. As mentioned above, don't let this get you down, you're on the right path by the sounds of it.
Age:24 | Onset Age:19 | Symptoms: Started with low frequency and pain during urination, anal pain during a bowel movement, lower back pain, tightness in abdominal area. Symptoms now: mainly pain around anus and Perineum, | Helped By: Exercise, trigger point massage, walking, general relaxing, and working. | Worsened By: anxiety of a pain flair up especially on the weekends

Re: Pain After PT
I know I have brought this up before, but still curious. Does anyone get any blood and mucous after PT? My penile pain went away by the second day, but then I got to use the restroom, and once again there is blood and mucous in the stool. Not that much blood or mucous as last time, but there is still some pain in my buttocks, kind of like I sat too long. I had been regular all week, there was some definite tension, but other than that I was regular, no mucous, nothing. Is it possible that the treatments aggravate an existing roid? I'm not flipping out or anything, just utterly confused. I really want to beat this thing, and think I can, but this mucous and blood irritates me, its not a good feeling to see mucous and blood in the crapper, it is bright red, so I tihnk thats a good thing, but any more reassurance or advice from the members here would help shed some light greatly on this for me. I dont have diareha, nothing like that, just normal stools, and sometimes I think they aggravate a roid or something, that or the PT or both. Well see. If it doesnt cure up by this week I'm going to the doc just in case. In the meantime ill take my metamucil.
Good to go!

Okay, thanks. Just trying not to freak! :) I think I'm going to take a week off from treatments and see how I hold up. But just continue my relaxation regimen...

You're in good hands with Bonnie Cardenas, (no pun) she is well respected for pelvic floor disorders and she helped me get in the right direction. Even Dr. Wise has heard of her when I spoke with him once.

Re: Pain After PT
Yea, she is smart, nice too. I'm just worried about the bleeding I get that day through a few days afterwards, but, it goes away. I think I just need a week-long break to let the fissure/roid/whatever is bleeding, heal itself, and then get back on top of things. But in the meantime just continue to do my stretching and relaxation. All in all, I'm feeling better, but work does seem to flare me a bit, just learning to control it is the key. Also, coming off the valium will attribute to some additional anxiety so I'm wary of slowing down too fast, but I think a gradual taper is recommended, which is what I'm doing, and haven't had too many issues thus far, but it is needed. I feel like I'm on the right track. Valium does help though when a nasty flare comes up, a couple of those for a few days, and problems do go away, I think there is some benefit from having them in the armoury.
Do you think a psychologist is needed to help with the anxiety? I know the program seems to say you need a psych that understands paradoxical relaxation, but is it necessary? I'm thinking of seeing one, once a month, and see what insight they can offer me. But I guess I need to find one that understands these disorders -- which may be difficult.

Internal piles do not heal spontaneously, but you can help them subside by squatting when defecating:

Bad Day -- Work Stress
I am curious. Today has been an awful day at work, in fact so bad and stressful that it has contributed to my anxiety, and started the perineum, rectal burning sensation, and even disrupted my urination. I just find this to be amazing. It seems that every week my symptoms go through phases.
Mon- Everything is good, relaxed from the weekend.
Tues - Symptoms slowly start to appear.
Wed - Symptoms are prevalent, (usually have PT on this day, but taking a break today.)
Thur - Symptoms slowly reduce, and I start feeling better.
Fri - Symptoms are like Tuesday (usually have PT on this day)
Sat - No symptoms, feel good in general, except maybe a slight flair from the PT the day before.
Sun - Feel better than Saturday
This has been like this for a few weeks in a row. During this time I have decreased the amount of valium I have been taking and have not suffered that bad (except for today, I forgot to take it last night and had nightmares all night, and felt strung out this morning). Also my stretching regimen is the same. I am confident to say that the main trigger for myself is work, which will be verified, at least in my eyes, if I improve with the same treatments into this weekend.
Does anyone else on this board notice a progression like this, or anything similar?
I think I need a new job!!!! :)
