Current treatment: PT. | Worsened By:sitting, stressing over it, ejaculation, sometimes alcohol but I risk it. Been feeling a lot better last 6 months about 85% with a few flares lasting about 5 days. No longer having PT. Stretching every other night and I believe time is also a big factor for me

Pain AFTER urinating

Post by SFR75 »

I just searched the form for "after urination" term. Apparently this is a pretty common symptom.

Common symptom (mine as well) from posts found:

You wake up without pain. You take a pee and in couple minutes pain gradually installs.
Mine is in not in penis, but really somewhere in perineum. There is also some sort of
burning feeling in front, where bladder is (I suppose). Then pain just stays there or
gradually wanes away till next time you going to pee.

Additional symptoms which I experience:

The stream also seems abnormal - split or flat.
Ejaculation seems to be weak as well.
Golf-ball feeling sometimes.
But these symptoms appeared after the initial flareup.

Solutions/remedies:

Drinking water doesn't help. Tried that.
Some people got better by following SP more or less, doing exercises and stretching.
I had this exact flareup last summer and it sort of went away by itself.
But it reappeared again now.

NB: My very initial symptom on both occasion was dribbling after urinating. After couple
days of that - pain described above came.

So. Feel free to add your thoughts, symptoms, ideas, experiences.

Thanks,M

Classic sign of Interstitial Cystitis/Painful Bladder Syndrome (IC/PBS). Men do get it. Same general treatments as for the usual CP/CPPS.

They mostly talk about urgency/frequency in regards to IC/PBS. Which I don't have.

Actually the hallmark sign of IC/PBS is painful urination and pain associated with urination.

IC can produce pain that is perceived in any location or locations in the pelvis in any combination, with or without urinary frequency/urgency.

My post-urination burning is mostly in my lower urinary tracts, the urethra of my penis. Never felt it as burning in my bladder.

Sometimes I have the waning too, it gradually gets better after urination until I pee again. Other times its pretty much constant, and some days I don´t have this symptom at all (replaced by some other it seems).

Had two cystoscopies done too, and my bladder looked normal, no signs of inflammation.
Age: 41 Onset Age: 27 (dec 2006)Symptoms: Urethral burning, muscular pain and soreness around the base of my penis, perineum and muscles around my sitbones. Frequency, urgency, dribbling, general discomfort in the pelvis, decreased libido, tight levator ani (according to PT) and occasional levator- and sphincter spasms. Sometimes ache in penis, especially when erected. Latest addition is testicular pain (and epididymis). Also excretions of clear (prostatic?) fluid throughout the day as well as secretion in my urine. Varying power of urine stream. Redness on tip of penis and ballsack.Helped By: Positive thinking and controlling anxiety Worsened By: Stress, lack of sleep, heavy training (especially abs and legs), catastrophizing over this condition

Graeme, where did you locate your trigger points associated with the urethral burning?

I haven´t gotten far with my TP´s yet, especially not doing it myself. When I did it with a PT, some points seemed to recreate a burning sensation, they were on both sides of my levators and mostly middle and anterior. Haven´t really been able to find them myself, I really have to learn doing this myself.

Manually stretching the levators recreates it sometimes too.

Ok. I was thinking of doing cystocopy, but now I think it's useless.
Hacksquat, what about urodynamics ? Did you have it done ?

No, never did urodynamics. I never experienced my stream to be weak, so I never bothered. Two years ago they did an ultrasound of my bladder after voiding though, and it was emptied normally.

They are very high at one oclock and eleven oclock either side of the prostate and they insert into the prostate. Not easy even with a tool.

No specific physical findings are associated with interstitial cystitis. IC/PBS is not always imageable or visible. They look for Hunners ulcers, but only a proportion of people have it. Studies also have shown that cystoscopy has a 60% rate of underdiagnosing interstitial cystitis. Because of these limitations, cystoscopy is recommended only to exclude other possible causes of symptoms and not as the definitive diagnostic measure in interstitial cystitis.

One important note is that the distension often performed with cystoscopy leads to relief of symptoms in 20-30% of people with interstitial cystitis, which generally lasts for three to six months following the procedure. So may be worth doing. If you get a lot of relief, you'll know what you have.
