Yes, it is.
I would think that mast cells develop, degranulate and release the nasty stuff and die off.
No, they can degranulate repeatedly.

More on mast cells: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mast_cell

But there is hope, since apoptosis (cell death) means that if the chemicals causing them to form are removed (through relaxation and trigger point treatment, for example), they can gradually die off. I believe their lifespan is around 6 months (Christine Moller's PhD thesis). The trick is to remove the nerve stimuli in the pelvis, something I have not entirely managed to do. I'm sure if I threw away this computer and became a yogi or Buddha-type, I'd manage it. Plus I do not practise the physical side of DW's protocol, so I'm a bit of a lazy miscreant (99% cured is good enough for me).

I encourage anxiety prone UCPPS people to consider L-Theanine
Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.

Very honest Mark & what you have concluded is what I was getting at myself. Overall I think all this is more positive than negative!
Age: 29 | Onset Age: 26 | Symptoms: initially severe burning throughout pelvis - much better; muscles spasms all over region, back pain, chronic IBS (much better) | Helped By: Psychotherapy, SP stretches, swimming, accepting the condition (understanding there is treatment); stress/anxiety management; possibly basic quercetin; valerian root, vit B & calc & magn supplements; gluten avoidance & especially dealing with chronic constipation. | Worsened By: stress / anxiety, too much sex; repressed emotions; personality goodist traits. 80% better

Wheat/gluten

Post by Richie »

This is along the lines of thinking I had. A way to reduce mast cells or shut them off.

I read some stuff on Enzyme potentiated desensitization (EPD) which uses a small amount of injected antigen and the enzyme Beta Glucuronidase which helps activate T suppressor (CD8) cells. Unlike Imunotherapy, IgG levels do not rise, a tolerance develops.

See page 6:

tESCOS

Post by inflamed »

I recommend a big Tescos GP2 although Sainsburys usually have a good gluten free section, look out for orange chocolate bars, and 9 Bar seed bars.
They also have Gluten free flours, gravy etc. My personal favourite is Rustic rolls (Tescos) nice toasted.

Thanks for that

My tesco is pretty small & the GF section follows suit unfortunately. I've found some goo things though.

I thought chocolate was ok. Is that correct? Obviously it has to be pure chocolae without biscuit / filling?

i know you had problems with your stomach muscles being tight inflamed. I think with me a lot of my problems come from the stomach area after years of tensing my muscles when my stomach was playing up due to gluten / other food allergies.
