I am willing to put a poll together to help us determine where this is all caused by. I am in the IT world so i can put something together.

Did anyone ever make this happen? This looks really good winding_road!

Webslave - I may be looking at an old post here, is there anything on recent polls or data we can compile or start compiling?

If you want to set up an anonymous poll or questionnaire on another site, and link it here, go for it. Be aware that it takes a while to get decent numbers (hundreds).

Or you can set up a poll on the forum, but then only the active members can participate and not guests, which will mean far fewer responses.

Sounds good, I will start with some data and then provide a link for others to contribute to the questionnaire.

We don't have to get too complicated at the start.

sufferinginpain, I have a lot of survey design and methodology experience and am happy to contribute to a project such as this. I also know 4-5 CPPSers offline and could potentially reach more via medical practitioners I keep in touch with.

Its funny.. I wonder how many of us (me included) are in the IT field?? :D

Correlation? Possibly?

Webslave - would you consider making it a perm link or post at the very top to attract users if this is created?

The condition itself should not be related to the profession. The fact that we are here discussing might be related to it.
I think its because "we" tend to browse the web extensively in search of answers and regarding this condition we ultimately met to this forum, while many others just stop after reading the usual things.

Agreed. It is also supposed to be common in truck drivers. I've also noticed a lot of lawyers, and people involved in chemistry, oddly.

Haha.. programmers. :)

I used to program, how do you do it in a busy loud office? You don't - its extremely frustrating to be interrupted and I find it adds to my stress.

I started to work at night, when there is no one around to bother me.

Okay, I propose the following:

1. Come up with an agreed-upon set of objectives for the survey and resultant data analysis.
2. Produce a draft version of questions, ensuring that the survey is short enough to yield a large sample size yet long enough to collect as much useful info as possible.
3. Iterate, iterate, iterate.
4. Publish survey on surveymonkey or keysurvey.
5. Develop survey distribution strategy and execute on it (this forum will be the main avenue, but we shouldn't ignore other possible avenues).

I think we should also buy a domain name like CPPS-survey.com. It would be pretty cheap.

Thoughts?

My thoughts for #1 are as follows:
The goal of this survey should be to collect data on chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome users to be able to provide future site users with actionable information that will help them effectively address their symptoms. We may potentially be able to provide clinicians or a magazine with the results of the survey in order to publicize the incidence of CPPS.

I think that's a nice idea.

What I want to see is an area where users on this forum can somehow append to a file or post so that they can add questions. This will give the opportunity for us to get every symptom, every detail from ourselves, rather just once source. You have to remember that this condition is very different with each person, which is why Webslave is a genius for making us put that all in our signature!

What do you think?
