I must be lucky not have an addictive personality as I've been using Tramadol (Ultram) for well over 2 years now and have dropped my dosage down from 250mg a day to 50mg with no side-effects or need to increase it. It also didn't cause any bladder irritation but the pity with these sorts of meds are that they can effect people so differently.

I didn't see Tramadol in your sig's "what helps", Richard. Any other meds you're keeping from us?

Yes, a few supplements that are detailed in my 'Success' thread. Good point though - I should put them in my sig as well - and will later this week.
My main symptoms are urethral burning/ pain and IBS diarrhea.
I use a SSRI, Celexa. I have found it to have no side effects at all for me. It probably reduces my symptoms about 10 to 15%. Not a lot, but it does make a difference. To be honest, I think I get less moody too when things are going bad with my health.
BEWARE. You cannot take Tramadol (ultram)/ or Tramacet, when taking any SSRI's. This can create a lethal combination.
I use Emtec which is codeine and acetaminophen. Very similar to tylenol 3's but without the caffeine. This will make you constipated, but because I have chronic diarrhea, it works out perfect for me.

This is my first post. I've had chronic pelvic pain / IC for 3.5 years. I'm very conservative with drugs, but low dose valium has proven beneficial for me. It is highly addictive, and I would avoid it if you can. I recently tapered off, but after a few months my symptoms have returned with a vengeance. Other than stretching / Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol, what are the best alternatives to diazepam, particularly for someone who has a multi-year history with the drug?
My dosage was 2mg x 2 daily.
I also took Neurontin 300mg x 2 daily, and I'm tapering off that as well.
